I know the 6128 Plus famously came with no socket to connect a tape drive  :picard: however is it possible to make a mod to connect one? It looks like the firmware is still there present when you do a "|tape" etc.

I have a vague memory of Amstrad Action talking about doing a hardware project for this.

I couldn't find one on the CPC Wiki though.

Thanks!

It is possible, yes. The motherboard of the 6128 Plus and the 464 Plus is the same and adding the missing components (and modifying the case) will allow you to add a tape port to the computer. Bryce recently did this for me while I was upgrading my 464 Plus to a 6128 Plus at home and you have some pics of the final result here  :)

In the Wiki you have the service manual of the 464 Plus and the 6128 Plus, so you can check the missing parts there, or ask him.  Some other users did the mod too and I am sure they will give useful advice as well  :)

You didn't look long enough on the Wiki :)  I wrote a guide here: DIY Plus Tape Socket - CPCWiki

I thought it's possible by stereo out socket, similar as in ZX+3.
In STARS, TREK is better than WARS.

No. Not at all.

The +3 has a mono output which means on it's 3.5mm jack one channel is used for the mono output, one for the input.

The CPC jack has audio output on both channels of the 3.5mm jack.

Yes it's possible I think I have enough components left to assemble a kit of all you need. Just pm me your address and I'll post it to you.
