FD1 Write protect pin, where does it go?

I "finally" managed to get a DDI interface to go with my FD1 today, trouble is on replacing the drive belt a little gold pin dropped out (I still have it), anyway, after not being able to see where it went I reassembled and hoped for the best, everything went well until I tried a game that needed the protection "off" (it could have been on tbh), anyway, no matter what i did with the disk it always had the same result, ie, not working.

This makes me think it was some sort of write protect pin, if i can find out where it goes I'll put it back, any ideas (or pictures!)

You guessed correct, it's the write-protection pin. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any decent picture on the Wiki showing exactly where it goes, so I would suggest you insert a disc while the FD-1 is open (and turned off). Then you will see the position on the disc where the white write protection tab is located. This tab pushes against the pin.

Thanks Bryce! Took some figuring out but I got it in there! Tip for anyone else that has this problem, the pin goes from underneath, upwards, not sure how it holds in place but it does somehow.

Anyway, finally got a full Amstrad CPC464 setup on the go, loving it!

The leaf switch on the PCB holds the pin in place. That's why it tends to fall out if you loosen the PCB and turn the whole lot upside down!

lol, thanks - my 30 minute job of changing the belt on my new 6128 turned into a bit of a mare. Firstly I couldn't get the PCB off, I burred the head of the screw holding the LED PCB on top of the drive so couldn't remove that to try to get better access, I removed one of the connectors I didn't need to and had hardly any access to reconnect it, then the belt left a load of residue on the cog from the motor and as I was taking a small screwdriver and rubbing alcohol to it, the unit slipped and my write pin fell out. Coupled with the fact I had an early start this morning and it was 1am when I finished I ended up in a foul mood doing it, especially after I put it back together and realised the video guide I was following caused me to put the pin back in the wrong place and had to take it all apart again...

Also I have a memory like a sieve so figured I'd take a photo in case I needed to do it again

Amazingly, it did!

I played a bit of Stryker and the Crypts of Trojan after I finished. I'll have to fire it up again after work and make sure nothing has seized on it.

Still working, although the springs to eject the game could be a bit stronger...

Oh it's not mine.

It can be found from Data Serve's site. I used those same instructions to change the belt in my +3 and CPC6128.
