I think in most countries tracked post, regardless of efficiency, also has a built-in insurance amount, so you could claim it...

talrek

No there is no insurance.
The tracking differs from a country to another. From France to UK or Germany for exemple, countries exchange informations between them.
On the french post site, i know when someone has picked up the package, or if the package has not been delivered. In that case, you can have an insurance, because for the french post office there is a proof of non delivery.

But, with some other countries : Greece, Romania for example, they don't communicate tracking with other country (France at least)
the last message i got is : outside France. No other kind of tracking is available, because there is no exchange of this kind of informations between these countries... So there  isn't any insurance available...

This is why i say it is a shame, because it should be the same for every country inside EU at least !

Using a Registered Mail/Packet from France, you are insured for any destination over the world.
If you use  post'export and secure export, you are insured only for the listed destination.

I'm currently waiting for something (expensive) being sent by Frances wonderful Chronicpost Chronopost. The last message in the tracking page "Envoi en cours d'acheminement", loose translation = "On its way" :D - very informative (Yes, I know it doesn't really mean that, but it's about as useful). It's been like that since Thursday, so I assume it has been passed on to a German courier, but their page doesn't tell you that or which one, so I assume that's their last message and I've no other page where I could follow it :(

Strange, when I track a Chronopost parcel I get more informations.  :-\

But the actual "christmas" delay are so worstin all countries...
3 weeks ago I have sent a X-MASS proto-board for SyX to Spain and the packet took 2 weeks instead of 3/5 days from France, so he missed it for 2 days. :(

Maybe you get more information because you are the sender, or have an account? From the tracking number that's all I get :( Not too worried yet, it will arrive and is also well insured.

I've also got a few parcels "lost in action" that I sent lately. Still hoping they'll all arrive though. Last year I sent something to Ireland on the 10th of Dec. and it didn't arrive until the 25th of Jan!!!

Wahooo great !! thanks a lot your teached me something. I didn't know, even if it is 4,30 euros to add, it could be interesting. It begins to be expensive though.

To be fair, this morning I got an e-mail from DPD (a German courier company) to say the "My parcel would arrive between 11:53 and 12:52" :D The doorbell rang at 11:54 :) So Chronopost seem to use DPD on the German side.
