Title: HxC - but no SD card
Post by: radu14m on 17:56, 22 August 13
I got an HxC for my cpc but unfortuntely no SD card, and no software.
Can somebody tell me the steps that need to be done to prepare the SD card, and from where to get the apps and games.
Is there a link, from where this can be downloaded, rr the entire SD card content, ready to go ?

thanks !

You don't need to prepare the SD-Card. Just copy the disk files in HFE-format onto it, and you're ready to go.

HxC2001 HeadQuarters : HxC Floppy Emulator (http://hxc2001.free.fr/floppy_drive_emulator/)

To convert the dsk-files to hfe you'll need the PC-software from this site. You can find all the docs that you need there as well.

Is there a downloadable archive with all existing apps and games for cpc in hfe format on the net?

Not that I know of. A German guy has made a small collection of hfe files, but I can't remember where I read that.

The PC software does feature a batch conversion, so you just need to point it to your collection of dsk files and it will convert them all at once. That is as easy as it gets.

In this case, you should download the zipped iso file from this website and burn it on a CD:
CPCGamesCD (http://cpcgamescd.amstrad.es/)

Hm, nope, I can't recall having seen anything resembling that for the CPC. :/

There is the Walnut creek CP/M collection, available from a big CP/M site who's name escapes me now, but you still have to burn your own CD.

The CPCGamesCD won't help; the included files are loose, no disk images. But I guess found a package?

I could upload a complete archive if anyone needs it...

When you get the SD card for your HC here is a link to the HFE files I have uploaded here

Gryzor, I've been looking for a collection of CPC dsk files for a while now. I don't have a HxC but with my symbiface working I have dsk games on a compact flash card, and to play them I load up SymbOS and use the Dsk De-Dumper to copy a dsk file to a real disk, then re-boot and load up the game.

So if you were to upload a collection that would be awesome news for me!

Sorry to "crash in" here, but it seems only premium users can download such a big file :( I'd be very interested in this also.

That's ok, it's downloading only very slowly anyhow. Looks like I'm going to need a 4GB CF card now... (or more??)

@Munchausen: Hm, I don't have it unzipped so I'm not sure, but probably. Keep in mind though that this set includes multiple versions of games, so you don't need it all!!!

@Steve: this was disabled a while ago... bad moderation.

Cool, will strip it down a bit when the download finishes then.

Have only got the 1st part so far... apparently I've reached my download limited and have to wait a few hours...

Ah crap, yeah, that's the price for those services... 4 parts uploaded now.

You could try resetting your router and hope for a new IP...

Hold on is this the same as http://www.emuparadise.me/Complete_ROM_Sets_ (http://www.emuparadise.me/Complete_ROM_Sets_)(Full_Sets_in_One_File)_ROMs/Amstrad_CPC_(GoodCPC_v2.02)/96310 ?

I've just downloaded that and it seems to have most of the stuff. Comes in at 2.2GB once unpacked, so I've also just ordered a 16GB CF card... should keep me going for a while!

Still downloading your copy as not sure if yours is more complete?

Hm, not sure about the version to tell you the truth... It *is* the GoodCPC, but no idea. How many files does your have? Mine is 27.103...
Title: Re: HxC - but no SD card
Post by: Munchausen on 15:35, 10 September 13
Ah ok, this must be a much reduced version then, it's only 11,261 files.

Just got 2 16GB CF cards... plenty of room for all these now: with my dual CF to IDE adapter my CPC now has 32GB of space!

Update: It took me a long time to actually get everything on to the CF. I kept getting no more space on device errors, which didn't make any sense as I had loads of room left. Then I figured it out - FAT has a maximum number of files per directory, so I had to divide all the files alphabetically before I could copy them.

Yeah, it's always awkward when you get to deal with old formats and their restrictions :)

I've got a couple of 64GB microSDs, more space than you could ever need.
