Thanks Jeff :) Tested and workd fine, although I don't know what has changed ;)

I hope I'm not unreasonable by making the following feature requests:

1. By pressing a alphabet key list of files scrolls to the first file beginning with the aplhabet
2. FIles are arranged in alphabetical order as default (I'm not  100% sure this isn't already implemented someway?)

Yeah, I had pointed out both of those things I think - especially the first, navigation by typing (not only first letter, but like Windows Explorer or Directory Opus (even better, with the visible input box) does...

emuola

Yes I had also Dopus in mind :) The "typing filename" feature would really rock!

Should the files be in alphabetical order? Because my files seem to be in the order they've been added to the sd card?!

The biggest feature in this alpha version is the READ fix : for directories with many many entries (200+) there is no more any slowdown like previously.

Unfortunately, the files can not be sorted. That would imply to get all the complete file list content for a specified folder, apply the sort and display it to the user. 2 major constraints for that : memory and speed (getting the complete file list would be very long and quickly boring for users).
That said, I advise you to manage your files with letters-folders, cf. A-D, E-L, M-P, Q-T, U-Z ..

Gryzor

That's what I do - dirs with small groups (alphabetical) of files. But the find-as-you-type thingy could work, no?

Well, one can sort the files on the SD card itself, so there is no need to let the HxC to do the job (everytime agian).

Further people should understand that a microcontroller with very limited ressources is not a PC. So please don't expect from it what a CPC or PC can do. The HxC is not designed as a stand alone computer, it's a floppy emulator - and a great one!!!

IMHO: The software is really satisfying and I'm very glad with it. It offers way more that we can expect usually from such a piece of hardware. Thank's to the whole HxC team.

The file order on the sd hxc is the fat directory entry order (not exactly the date order).
to sort files try this software :

The Amiga and Atari ST got an search feature.
The CPC version is almost done  ;) .

I totally agree :) I put my files in 0...z folders and works great :) Thank you Jeff and team :)

Jeff beat me to it with the DriveSort program - I've been using it myself.

Great to hear that search is coming!!!

Actually I have trouble with the sub dirs now. Did not test thoroughly enough before.

If I have folders a,b,c,d, etc on the sd card the file selector shows me exactly the same files in every folder?! It seems that the files shown are the ones in the folder which was copied first to the sd card in Winblows?! The weirdest thing is that when I add a new folder to the sd card the new folder gets the same files as the "firtst folder"!? I already reformatted the card (8 GB Kingstom), but same results. In Winblows the folder comtents are ok.

FW 1.5.1.0 and selector 2.1a

Am I doing something reaally stupid here or what?

Ahem :) I still have some work to do on my side and unfortunately, these days I'm reallllly busy (focusing on my 6 weeks-old kid) so please be indulgent with potential delay. That said, the internals are done, most of the stuff to be done is UI-side so it should not take forever to finish it.

QuoteIt seems that the files shown are the ones in the folder which was copied first to the sd card
Yeah, this is the expected behavior. What is bad with that? The written files on SDCard will be the first shown ones in the HxC manager.

HxC Floppy Manager Manager is not iTunes. Still, a FIND option in current directory is being implemented. Which is better than nothing, right? :)

QuoteYeah, this is the expected behavior. What is bad with that? The written  files on SDCard will be the first shown ones in the HxC manager.

I ment that I have folders for games beginning with letter a, b, c, d etc and naturally I copy games accordingly. In Windows the files/folders are ok, but in the selector every folder a,b,c,d etc has the same files?! Like I said, every folder that gets copied to the sd card seems to get the files that are in folder which was copied first. So, every folder a,b,c,d,e etc have files beginning with a (files that are in folder "a"). Also tested with 1 GB Sandisk card. Result is the same :(

*edit*

One folder works, but adding more than one makes things go crazy (the new folders always get the contents from the first folder).

So, somehow the files/folders are displayed in a wrong way -> cannot use folders :(

I hope I make more sense now :)

It's probably an unexpected behavior, I let Jeff answering on this..

You can put your cf in an ide adapter and sort it under MS DOS with DS (directory sort) from Norton!

Yeah man! Norton ruled!

Ok, but what is the actual reason/problem that causes this weirdness? Am I the only one with this problem, or has everybody else been using this "sorting" method?
Amstrad CPC 6128+ and internal HxC floppy emulator

Bryce

I use that sorting method and don't have that problem. Maybe you need to re-format the SD card.

Bryce.

emuola

Do I really need to get me sd/ide-adapter for this? Sounds a bit complicated...

QuoteMaybe you need to re-format the SD card.

I tried that, but unfortunately no help :(

Maybe a digital camera? That's what I format mine on.
Have you any other SD cards you can try? Maybe it's just f*@ked.

Yes, I have a sd card reader, but I meant the sorting thingy in Dos. I got the impression that we're talking about ms-dos and thus the ide-adapter.

Are you using this software for sorting:

http://www.anerty.net/software/file/DriveSort/?lang=en

Sorry, I'm somehow lost here.

*edit*

Tried also copying the files/folders to the sd card o my wifes laptop (with a built in sd slot). Same result.

Summing it up:

-2 different sd card readers
-2 different sd cards
-both cards formatted many times
-Sorted files with 2 different Windows (fat file/directory sorting) applications

= Does not work :(

I'm trying to copy the files in Ubuntu next, let's see...

and with the old version did you get the same problem ? :

I tried the latest fw (1.6.0) and latest selector 2.1a. Unfortunately I still get the weird "every folder has the same files" -problem.

Is this a known problem?

mhh i don't reproduce the problem here.

Can you make a "dir /s /a >out.txt" of the sdcard in a command line shell and post here the "out.txt" file.
I need it to rebuild your sdcard folder tree.
