Joystick Repair

In a recent thread (that I'm too lazy to go looking for now), there was a discussion on repairing dodgy digital joysticks. After giving my two cents worth, I went to check the Wiki and other 8-bit sites and was amazed at the lack of decent tutorials, info, pictures or anything in fact.

So due to the fact that.. A) I've ran out of components for my current project so I have to wait for new parts to arrive, and B) I messed up my shoulder last week, and can only do things that involve the use of only one arm, so I can't do any proper hardware stuff anyway, I decided to get out the camera and document some tips on fixing the different types of joystick there are.

Luckily I found the three most common types in my box of 8-Bit stuff and they needed some fixing anyway

That's a superb guide, mate... we humbly thank you. I'm sure it'll come handy to someone in the future, hopefully outside the CPC scene as well.

Btw, I think your next project would be a robotic arm to help you when you hurt your real one. I hope you get better soon!

I've already approached Cyberdyne Industries and a company called Skynet to discuss my robotics ideas, but shortly after that I was visited by a woman (I think her name was Sarah Connor) who convinced me that it wasn't such a good idea, something to do with her son John and some war in the future, it was all very confusing.

Try ringing OCP, I think they might be interested if you incorporate a phaser gun or something. Though I think they're more specialised in large-scale models; you'd have to discuss it with your wife...

No need, I've scraped my original prototype (the CSM-101) and decided to ignore all the warnings and now I've started working on my latest model using intelligent morphing alloys (Part No. 526-110-2 in the Farnell catalogue) . I think I'll call it the T-1000. That has a certain cool sound to it.

Watch it - I tried that once and my then-girlfriend found its morphing abilities very interesting. That was my last foray into hardware building.
