I switched my CTM640 monitor on, well, the screen is black with yellow fonts, if I move the brightness wheel at the side, blue lines flicker across the display for a second or two. The display lights up slightly blue after a while but almost like an optical illusion.
I take it its just about had it.
Any ideas guys.
Probably nothing serious, it sounds like the brightness potentiometer is either loose / bad solder joint or really dirty. Cleaning or resoldering it will probably sort the problem out.
Bryce.
Thanx Bryce, will try that.
Contact spray does the job for me.
@bryce I've cleaned it thoroughly.
@VincentGR (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1053) Thanx, I had been thinking about that last night, (it worked with an X-Wing fighter that refused to make any sounds), so I've just sprayed CC on the CTM Pot wheel, leaving it to dry for a little while.
Still a load of dust on the monitors shell, below the main-board, I don't like dust.
Sadly the screen is still dark with yellow fonts. The pot wheel just darkens and lightens (as its supposed to) no flickering. I do not want to go fidgeting inside the thing more than I have to.
I adjusted the flyback screen pot brightness. The display is now blue; as it should be. Not sure if this is the best course of action; maybe someone would like to comment.
I was finding the blue dropping out on my display - turned out to be cracked joints where the RGB socket was soldered to the motherboard. I reflowed those and got the blue back. Does nudging the cable make any difference/cause flickers when it's black/yellow?
Nothing happens when I nudge the cables. It flickered (at first) when I turned the brightness wheel outside the monitor. I would rather someone who doesn't mind working with CRT monitors to take a look, I prefer working inside computers.
I can give you contact details to a few people in the UK that do CRT repair, but it will probably cost a fortune to send the monitor to them unless they happen to live somewhere near to you. Send me a PM with your location and I'll see who lives nearest to you.
Bryce.
Sent you a PM, thanx.
