Fitteed new membrane to 664 most keys working again, maybe just needs some alignment or something but 97% working, the disc drive worked straight off too no worries there

Bryce

It's very difficult to mis-alighn the membrane. Are you sure the edge connector didn't get bent when you inserted it? Did you also clean all the dirt out of the keys and springs before you installed the new part?

Bryce.

The dirt could be it and yes the edge connector was tricky will attend to it at the weekend when have got more time, discs are readable and the keys are not as discoloured as the photograph suggested.

F16 just ran on it fine the function keys are a bit iffy will attend to that Sunday

Bryce

Why didn't you clean it when you had it completely dismantled??  ??? Isn't it the obvious opportunity to do this?

Time, and have more of it on Sunday, and it looks like that connector can be safely taken apart.

Aaarggghhh! You jammed it in without lifting the lock!! It may be damaged now, or you may also have left some of the old one inside when you pulled it out with the lock closed.

I did lift the lock nothing was left inside it, just from that picture it looks like you can, so that is not a good move what that person ahs done then?

The connector was left intact in one piece it rises up and down far as I can tell.
raised it up to a safe extent the old membrane connector came out freely, then placed the new one in and pressed it down until it felt secure then put the computer back together again.

Bryce

For normal use you only need to slide it up, you don't need to remove it. But if you're careful, there's no problem with removing it, especially to clean the terminals.

so far its just certain keys the del key and the left shift key, and the function keys.
