Hi,

I recently bought the cased HxC SD Floppy Emulator Rev C from Lotharek and the power supply and ribbon cable I bought from Amstrad Spectrum 3 Kit Ribbon Cable and PSU for 3 5" Floppy Drive or HXC Emu |.

I updated the firmware of the HxC and filled the sd-card with several empty disk images, inserted it into the HxC, connected the cables to my CPC664. I then select a virtual disk on the HxC using it's operator keys. When I type |B, the computer hangs and will not accept any input except reset CTRL+SHIFT+ESC. It might be that the error is between keyboard and chair :-) so I ask you guys for advice.

My main concern is that I have connected the cables wrongly. Can somebody please verify. Please look at the pictures below. I have not touched the two switches on the cable, but I have nothing to document what their for. According to my CPC664 User Manual I have connected the red wire on the cable to pin 1 on the external floppy disk connector.

The picture is not the best, but the switch closest to the red cable it switched to the right and the other is switced to the left.

The jumper settings in the manual for the HxC I have set the HxC as the second drive. As the manual reference the HxC without casing I might have done it wrong. Can someone please verify just by looking at the picture? I have connected two pins (row 1 and 2) in second column.

Thank you in advance for taking time to look at it.

Excuse my rubbish photos, this is how I've got mine set up to drive A on a 6128. Maybe you can use it as a starting point?

Have you also got HXCSDFE.CFG on the SD card?

Thanks beaker,

Looking at how you plugged the cable to the HxC I did the same and it's working. YES. :-)

I did have the correct jumper setting.

Thanks again. Unbelievable fast response.

Got this cable myself today and just remembered that switching configurations with the HxC is a headache every time...

I was to fast saying it was ok. :-[

When it's connected I can access the HxC and virtual disk, but not my physical disk.

A drive should be physical
B drive should be the HxC (jumper settings as shown in second column of the HxC SD Floppy Emulator User Manual page 11)

|B and cat list the content of the selected disk on the HxC
Then doing |A and cat again I still get the content of the HxC?

The ribbon cable is connected the way beaker shows in the pictures and the two switches on the cable have the same position as well.

When I disconnect the ribbon cable from the CPC I can access the physical disk without any problems. The manual references 6128. Are there differences to my 664?

Hi,

It's me again.  :)

I've been looking around for a solution. Google pointed me back to cpcwiki.eu and Guide on how to connect a 3.5" drive to a CPC6128/664 - CPCWiki.
The section Making floppy primary drive(OPTIONAL) tells about drives-act-as-one error, my exact problem. So all I had to do was to set the switch on pin 11-12 as the link specifies.

Now it's working and the other switch functions as a side switch I have learned. I've always been reluctant to use switches on computers while it's powered on, but I can do it safely here (don't take my word for it).

IMHO the jumper setting on both systems IS different.
