Hi, I've created a small routine (53 bytes) that will jumpstart the CPC Dandanator USB transfer from the PC.
Right now, we've integrated this as a bootloader in case of memory corruption, but it opens the possibility to interesting things such as USB transfer CPC<->PC, disk backup and restore, game loading over USB ... Care to share your ideas?

This is a video of how it works as an emergency bootloader.

This is the bootloader as typed from within BASIC USB: 53 bytes!

Hi,

I could really use a device that would allow me to transfer files from the 3.5" Romdos D20 disks I have here to PC via USB. Romdos itself is history but Parados reads and writes to these disks without any problem. Would the Dandanator be capable of this?

Cheers,

Peter

Oh, just opens a new world!  :) :) :)  Would be great if the CPC can take over the PC.  ;D ;D ;D

I don't think it should be very hard to create a program to do just that, even in basic with some DATA asm to do the USB sending part.
If someone cares to do the read part of files to leave them somewhere in memory, I can complete it with the USB send part.

Thanks for the reply.

So, two questions.

1. Is the Dandanator still available?

2. Is there someone that could write a program for this purpose?

I have well over a hundred of the Romdos D20 format disks of various PD software that I'd like to see back in the public domain for CPCWiki members to check out.

Anyone?

1. Is the Dandanator still available?
It's a public domain project so anyone can build cartridges. I ran out of units already BUT I can make individual units for specific purposes like this one.
In any case, it's my hope that some Retro shops will take the project and sell it at a fair price.

2. Is there someone that could write a program for this purpose?
As I told you before, I can take care of the USB sending (z80 asm) and receiving (Java or similar) parts. The other part, the actual reading of the floppies and "Calling" the USB transfer routine has to be done by someone else.

1. Good, in that case I would like to purchase one.

2. I am quite clear on what is required from another programmer and in fact already have my own specifications for what is needed.

3. If anyone thinks they can create a simple file manager for this specific purpose please PM me - I would pay £30 for a program (that works 100%) that is capable of this - money to yourself or a charity of your choice.

Thanks,

Peter

Hi Peter, I'll make one for you. Please proceed with the payment and sending of your postal address.
Our deal is that you'll make this transfer software available for the community, with non-restrictive Creative Commons license (ie: don't include a No Derivative work limitation). Good choices would be either Public Domain or CC-BY-SA.

Thank you Dandare.

Payment will be made this morning.
I completely agree with you that any transfer software should be freely available, and this will be clear to anyone that writes it.

Cheers,

Peter

I typed in the above code to reset, followed the video. I run the program on the Amstrad CPC 6128, it just appears to pause. I click on the USB icon and nothing happens?
