Title: USIfAC - DISK2DSK , how ?
Post by: raycade on 00:28, 20 October 21
Hi,

I'm quite new to Amstrad, just got myself into this platform for the first time in my life. And it is great fun!
See details here:
https://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/general-discussion/hello-from-holland/

What I want to do is to make disk images of floppies and store them on my PC.

I'm currently using the other way around from PC to Disk (DSK2DISK) using the USIfAC, that works fine, but I want to archive all my disks and am looking for a proper solution.
Preferably disk images not sending files (i want to handle non-dos disks as well).
Does DISK2DSK exists?

I do not own any other peripherals only the USIfAC.
The M4 is on order, but takes 50 weeks or so.

Any tips or tricks would be welcome.

For standard data disks you can use this : https://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/amstrad-cpc-hardware/usifac-iimake-your-pc-or-usb-stick-an-hdd-for-amstrad-access-dsk-and-many-more!/msg203840/?topicseen#msg203840

Don't know if there is a solution for non-standard disks ...

The only solution I can think of for generating amstrad disk files from non-standard disks(a la cpm/custom formats) is an external flux reader a la Greaseweazle.

https://github.com/keirf/Greaseweazle -- this one originally started out as a means to image Amiga disks in particular(to my knowledge), but eventually ended up being expanded for multiple drive formats, like the Amstrad; there's little adapter boards for each kind of disk drive.

If you have a USIFAC II board with latest firmware, the RSX |DISK,"image.dsk" will save a copy of the disk to the USB drive. |DSK does the reverse.

Hi, this sounds like the solution I'm looking for.

I think I have the USIfAC 1 board. That one is a serial link to the PC using USB on the PC side.
Is that firmware also available for my USIfAC?
