Does anyone know whether Amiga genlocks and scandoublers work on cpc?

RetroCPC

Good question, I've just purchased a CPC6128 and have no monitor...

I've been looking at purchasing either this PCB:-

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Gonbes-GBS-8200-CGA-15kHz-EGA-25kHz-YUV-RGBS-to-VGA-HD-Video-Converter-8200/111462755254?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649,

or this unit:-

https://www.ebay.com/itm/BENESTON-AHD-CVI-TVI-to-HDMI-VGA-AV-Converter-Scaler-720p-1080p-60-50-Hz/283225656087?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

or:-

https://www.ebay.com/itm/SCART-to-HDMI-Converter-SCART-HDMI-to-HDMI-Converter-Adapter-Supports-RGB/223935877896?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

Or modify my CPC with an VGA cable (taking the H/V Sync signals buffered from the 6845 CRT IC) and using this monitor which mnay on the internet claim supports 15KHz sources:-

https://www.ebay.com/itm/BENQ-BL702A-43-18cm-17Zoll-LED-TFT-Monitor-1280-x-1024-SXGA-250cd-m-5ms/264523789294?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

I'm thinking the BENQ BL702A monitors my best bet as non of my spare monitors have a 4:3 or 5:4 aspect ratio... I need to confirm it will work with my "VGA" modifications to my CPC.

Dunno if genlocks work here, I know that on the Amiga is supported by the hardware meaning that one color is "transparent"

RetroCPC

Sorry if I confused the issue - my bad!, I thought the original post was asking about video line doublers / upscalers to allow connection of the CPC to a modern LCD monitor etc...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flicker_fixer

The Genlock feature of the Amiga allowed synchronization of an external video source so that the Amiga graphics could be overlaid with the external video source - used for generating titles, the background of the MaxHeadroom show etc... (I guess as VincentGR posted this would require a transparent background "Colour") - or maybe "Green Screen" would also work...

Ray,

Thanks for the feedback :)

I might purchase it and the BENQ monitor...

Stay & keep safe :)

I also have this converter too.
Works fine for the money but it's just for display.
There are some issues if you need something more than that.
It has delay.
You need a proper monitor to sync at 720p or 1080p so the picture will not be blurry.
Also you'll get some interlacing sometimes in games if something flashes, like when you respawn in a game.

The GBS 8200 works ok, but they changed the RAM access timing from 50 to 60Hz on newer versions which can cause black dots to appear on the screen. If you happen to get one of these you may not be happy with the picture.

Genlocking is a bit complicated. First you need to sync the internal CPC video with the external source. At the Amiga, the external sync is input to the Agnus chip, so it can sync the video frames, then you have the transparent color issue...

Scandoublers is other thing, because both machines output RGB + sync and in the PAL boundary, should work, like the GBS8200 (which is a general scandoubler, not an Amiga exclusive)
