Title: CPC Disc Net
Post by: GUNHED on 13:22, 08 June 21
Well, a very long time ago (right before the internet, Fidonet, RS232 crap and all that) I had the great idea to include a kind of communication system inside a disc mag.

Imaging: You get your new issue of a disc mag and right with that you also get you personal "email" / messages from other users. Or you can read public announcements.

Of course this idea was probably already stupid back the day. But somehow (with CPC groups in Facebook, Whatsapp and so on) - somehow I did remember that idea.

What would you think about it?

You mean for now? Ehhhhh...

Back then on the other hand, would have been cool. Someone should do a lot of manual work of course and getting discussions off the ground would be rather hard, but cool nonetheless.

Today? Definitely not. Too much effort for no advantage over the channels we have.

For back in the days it looks a bit different, but not too much: As much as I like the theoretical idea of using the channel to distribute message to the recipients, the question is, how the message first got sent to the distribution channel. As soon as we are talking about any electronic channel, mailboxes (Maus Net, Fido Net?) are much simpler and easier in handling. If we are talking about a manual hub, that receives the messages and distributes them out on disc, we enter a huge pile of problems. Probably somehow manageable, but a lot of effort.

What I would find more interesting is to provide the m4 and SFIII with some rsx to connect to a cpc-network, where you can see who is online, chat a little bit and perhaps start some little versus games or game images or tunes or .......

There is already a Telnet Client which "kinda" works, maybe someone to finish that one and set up a telnet BBS :D :D :D

It's like we did it all the time back the day. Sending discs via real-mail.

Well, as soon as technology has broken down and we only have one postman left - then, we may come back to it.  ;D  Probably not before.  :-\ :)

Back the day it was tooo expensive (at least in Germany, not flat-rate-telephone. Non-inside-city calls were really expensive).
