Q. How to reach potential customers when an advert in a magazine only lasted a month and a TV ad was out of the question?

A. Mmm - release a demo of your product(s).

1.

1988 UK demo for the The Informer graphic display program.

2.

Very interesting find, never seen one of these before... nicely done. How were they distributed?

ComSoft6128

Likely via PD libraries but also would have been distributed on Side B of other program discs sold by these companies - as we did with the CampurSoft demo disc.

Gryzor

Ah I see, makes sense. Have you done a vid for the CampurSoft one? :)

ComSoft6128

No vid for that one - reason being that it is boring - it consists of black screen/white text with two options:

1. Protext (printer function disabled)

2. PD DES  ( the Desktop Environment System)

8-Bit Advertising from the eighties (3) - Expert.bas by Peter Sorensen

Danish in-store demonstration program from 1985 using Locomotive BASIC.

Program is Listed at the end of the video.

"My very first demo on CPC, actually written on my brothers CPC464, before I even had a CPC of my own.
This demo was done for a company; "Expert" which sold TVs, Hi-Fi sets ...and Amstrad CPC 464s!
My brother was working in the company during the summer holidays, and since they sold Amstrad CPC 464,
they wanted a demo to run on the computer in the shop." - Peter Sorenson

8-Bit Advertising from the eighties/nineties (4) - INFOLOR 1

From CPCPOWER:
"The 'infolor' demos are made for a store located in Nancy, where we used to be. Somxay was doing a demo to catch the eye of passers-by in the window and sometimes he received floppy disks as a gift from the vendor."

TASWORD - Took me back to childhood, I wrote an essay for English class in it, and was told to take it back and wrote it out by hand!

How times have changed.
