Not with CPC floppy controler i'm afraid
Well, patching the internal FDC to 4 floppies, then adding the Vortex F1-D extenal FDC (it makes four drives anyway). But hey, I'm glad if my floppies work - and keep working.

It's not a matter of number of drive nor floppy controller. To play sound with drive, you need to bypass the controller and drive the step / direction lines directly.
We can set the step-rate to a multiple of 2 ms. So if we stay at 2 ms, we can basically use anything higher than 2 ms.
Personally I stick with LambdaSpeak, PlayCity and upcoming new hardware for the CPC. 8)
You can use the CRTC and the CTM and an AM radio receiver, too: http://www.erikyyy.de/tempest/ (http://www.erikyyy.de/tempest/) :o
Or you can use the CRTC to format floppies too: https://scarybeastsecurity.blogspot.com/2020/07/turning-400-bbc-micro-1981-into-40000.html :o :o

i was wrong, i tried to to the first notes with one drive, it works (a little) but there is a very small usable range for step rate settings (FDC command 3)
Yes, a small range for usability. 12 ms for 3" and 4 ms for 3.5". ...
However just for the music... I would set it to 2 ms and then do single stepping with a time-distance calculated by the CPC.
Ataaaaa !
Amazing !
