Hi there!

It's about time to have designated thread for FutureTex.

You may have heart about it already here and there, but now it's time to release (29.11.2024) the CPCs most powerful and comprehensive text editor...

It was written already a lot about it, no need to repeat it all, but have a look at the designated CPC-Wiki EU page here:
https://www.cpcwiki.eu/index.php/FutureTex

The last changes were the following...

FutureTex now uses not only the new type-ahead keyboard, but also expanded memory management (up to 4 MB of course), so it is possible to copy data from one expansion RAM block to another at 5.4 microseconds per byte. This is much faster than is otherwise possible (shifting using LDIR via buffer storage in the CPC's main RAM is a minimum of 12 microseconds per byte).

Here is an example:
- Figure 1 shows the expansion RAM being occupied by five different text files that are loaded and can be edited at the same time
- Image 2 shows the names of these five files. They occupy one, two, ten, seven or seven E-RAM blocks of 16 KB each.
- Figure 3 shows the RAM allocation after the first file was expanded and everything in the expansion RAM moved.

Working with multiple files of a few 100 KB is possible without any problems.

So, here are the pictures and the current version of FutureTex...

Again ... lots of updates, fixes and polishing... Enjoy!  :) :) :)

The pictures show the work with seven text files at the same time.
They do occupy 720 KB or RAM.

As we see: 4160 KB or RAM is just fine or the CPC.  8)

I've always wanted to use the CPC to write a book. That would be a dream. Still need to find a way to store them in non-volatile support... ah wait, I just remembered I made a SD card module for the SPI board, I have to write some firmware for it some day...

Awesome!!! I would love too to support your SD-card!  :) :) :)

BTW 1: Please get the new 2025-02-05 update! The last update put an bug into block-management. Sorry for that, fixed now.  :)

BTW2: Yes, you can write a book now with the CPC using FutureTex. But for publication you probably want to move the text to a Word-Processor, because FutureTex is a text editor.
But there is a Notpad similar character set, so export should be easy.  :) :)  :)

BTW3: Here comes the new Application and Source Code...

Have fun working with MB sized file!  :) :)  :)

Now the 4 MB Banking got enhanced!  :) :) :)

No banking like out &7EC4,&C4 anymore!
Instead OUT &7EFF,&C4.
The low byte of the 16 bit I/O address for banking beyond 512 KB now always uses &FF als low byte.

This makes it all way more compatible with additional external hardware / expansions.  :)
