Title: Re: iMPdraw v2.0

iMPdraw v2.0 can easily switch between Cpc Old and Cpc Plus mode now !
So, you could easily do pictures for Old Generation and make them with plus palette too. Nothing is impossible !
Just use your imagination and put some pixels now !

This screen was made by Kris/iMPact too ! Enjoy !

Post by: HAL6128 on 19:08, 11 July 18

Kris is a very good grafix artist, nice!

Is the tool also able to save (definable) parts of the screen?
Title: Re: iMPdraw v2.0
Post by: Ast on 20:41, 11 July 18
Yes, of course!
i2 have 3 saves possibilities:
-go1/go2 : two  17k screens high&low
-scr : 32k basic with display
-win : well Known ocp windows (ocp compatible) which allows you to save every pictures pieces you want !

For now, drive a/b, xmass (impdos) and albireo supports (load&save)
Possibilities to make your own brush easily... etc

Title: Re: iMPdraw v2.0
Post by: Ast on 12:59, 27 July 18
- Mode 0, Mode 1, Mode 2 support
- fullscreen support
- cpc plus (4096 colours) and cpc old (27 colours)
- xMass+Albireo+Drive a/b
- old 17k .scr compatible
- ocp .win compatible

Title: Re: iMPdraw v2.0
Post by: HAL6128 on 07:06, 03 August 18
Yes, sure.

If you will look for a pixel / image art / editing tool you will find in ImpDraw a perfect companion. It's fast, it's damn fast, especially together with ImpDos ...which is also fast by the way (...tried it first time). Loading a 32k image ... feels like a second on REAL hardware!.
Switching between full/overscan screen (with some window manipulation tools e.g. mirroring, copying, pattern fill) and editor mode (pixel setting mode in a magnified environment / split screen) is fast.
It also uses CPC PLUS capabilities.
Of course, you need get to know the use of the keyboard keys for a fast handling. In case you don't know it anymore there's a separate help screen always available.
What is also nice, you can leave the program into Basic environment, do something else, and switch back to the application with a full restored image.

Those speed capabilities and handiness makes me focusing in doing what I want... pixel on a screen.
It's not finished yet (first impression), but it looks very promising!

Nice. Now, this feature will limit the "swap pixel" to a square area.
Using a brush tool for painting over a specified colour will be more free to replace the colour with another ink but also frames and patterns.

Of course, simple patterns can be used  :P and cursor can be bigger & upper too.

Hi everyone !

Here is what the last iMPdraw v2 190816a (i1608a) brings to you. Here are 2 news functions I'd wish to introduce, Shift+Return et Shift+c.

These two new functions allow you to copy a second window into the ram and to paste it whereever you want.
Let's see an example.

Screen source - Inversio by CeD
(http://img110.xooimage.com/files/c/7/9/001-56789fa.png) (http://amstradplus.forumforever.com/image/110/c/7/9/001-56789fa.png.htm)

-Press f9 then f3 to get maximum x and y window size.
-SHIFT+RETURN to capture and save your window into memory.
DEL to delete high part selected

If all is ok, you'd have to see that!
(http://img110.xooimage.com/files/1/8/a/002-56789fe.png) (http://amstradplus.forumforever.com/image/110/1/8/a/002-56789fe.png.htm)

-Put the window at the Bottom of the screen.
-Press v for vertical flip screen.

-Press x to cut the selected screen.

-Put the window at the top of the screen and press C to paste the window.

-Put the cursor at the Bottom of the screen.

-Press Shift+c to paste the saved first window.

I struggle to do pixel art with keys or a joystick, It would certainly make the package more accessible for more people.

But either way I think it's amazing what you've done.  8)

I've managed to get the ROMs installed to my M4 with the iMPdraw ROM in slot 2 and the extension ROM in slot 3. It starts just fine but it's doing some odd things when I try and use it. For example when I press CLR to switch to the Plus palette my 6128+ resets and then changes the palette to a grey background with green/blue border and text. The keyboard input is then slow and although can go back in to iMPdraw it is not displaying correctly.

I've uploaded the ROM images from the disk image both via the M4 web interface and directly via the RSX commands to make sure it's not something I'm doing but still no joy! In fact it won't even start after doing that!

I should point out that I do also have an X-Mem memory module installed along with a Multiface 2 and Hackit plugged in. HxC Manager is in slot 5 and ParaDOS in slot 7 with the M4 ROM in slot 6.

Removing the X-Mem and all other ROMs other than the M4 ROM results in a red screen instead which if left I've just noticed changes to green!

Does anyone else have a similar setup and has it working please? I did have the extension ROM in slot 31 but it did the same thing except different colours!

I double checked that the ROM images themselves were ok in WinApe and all checked out. I'll try and give upload to XMEM when I can get 5 mins. Thank you for all of the effort you've clearly put in to this.

I've had an opportunity to upload the ROMs to the XMem rather than the M4 and everything works as expected. So it would seem that the ROM images aren't compatible with the M4 at this moment in time. Just to be clear even with the XMem removed so that only the M4 and the original Plus cart installed I had the same issues. Can anyone else replicate this please or is it just something odd with my Plus or M4? All other ROMs work on the M4 without issue.

But i don't know why.... I2 rom is installed on rom 2, ext in rom 4. When i do ùi, black screen...

@Duke (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1624) : any idea ?

I did some work in iMPdos and now, it is possible to copy files between xmass & m4. Really cool & fast.

Only a quick check, if I type

Then
|i
It seems to work, so indicating some conflict with M4 rom for file access or initialization of something?

Good news! I probably found the problem !!
When i connect/disconnect asic ram before running i2, it's Crashing... but unfortunately i don't know why... if someone has any idea... please, tell me!
I2 is running well when asic page is not connected on m4 support, so it's running perfectly in old mode.(when i delete asic detection!)

Hi everyone,

I'm going on M4 support on iMPdraw v2.
After many and many checking, i found THE bug making i2 working wrong.

@Duke (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1624) : We need your help! I discovered that connecting/disconnecting the asic I/O page into a rom (i'm not speaking about a .cpr file) will crash the m4 rom.
Is it possible to fix it ? Thanks for your fast answer.

About i2 progress, iMPdraw v2 is running on M4, cpc old only. We can load/save any file from m4 without any bugs.
iMPdos has been fixed with added new features, as :

-ùM4 to access m4 card and add other importants informations for iMPdraw.
-ùCPSDX to copy files from sd to xmass
-ùCPXSD to copy files from xmass to sd

Today, i will work on m4 directory's access on iMPdraw. It will be funny when it would work.

Thanks. Good find. And yes in default 'mode' M4 will not check RMR2 as it would assume regular CPC operation.
If IMPdraw roms were put into a CPR image and started with |CTR, it may already work on CPC plus.
Anyway I will see what I can do soon.

A cpr version will not be done yet. For the moment, all my strenghts are directed to a functional m4 version of  iMPdraw.

I would be happy to see a new m4 rom with rmr2 fixed.

I would be happy to see a new m4 rom with rmr2 fixed.

Attached is a temporary fix.
It simply mask the upper 3 bits for RMR -check instead of 2 bits.
This will avoid paging out upper rom when mapping the ASIC ram, but of course it will give problems to earlier demos/games that use GA "ghost" registers in regular CPC mode (if any...).
Really I should watch for the ASIC unlock sequence, but clock cycle wise it is too expensive while I also monitor all other I/O regs for the hack menu.
So I don't have a good permanent solution yet.. Probably in the end a CPR/BIN started with |CTR is best solution or a specific M4 command that enters CPC plus rom mapping mode without the use of |CTR.

Anyway this should do for now, will keep thinking of a better solution.

EDIT: think I found an efficient solution to implement asic unlock/lock sequence. Will try that out tomorrow.

Cool! Good work :)
Actually I was halfway into implementing the unlock/lock sequence, when I found that the best solution is to keep the CPC and CPC+ modes seperate. This using a .CPR/.BIN rom image and starting it with |CTR when wanting to use CPC+ mode roms on M4.
Ie. for one compatilibity with C4CPC.

I may change my mind again, but for now that would be the safe distribution form.

I think that is the overall best solution. Use .CPR / .BIN with the correct roms setup. Came to think of it M4 is the only hardware that does have CPC+ ROM mapping and also runs on classic CPC, so there is no best practice (yet). In |CTR mode all cartridge ROMS are disabled via ROMDIS and M4 owns the entire ROM space, in normal mode, they can co-exist but if M4 starts mapping roms according to RMR2 bit, I dont think cartridge games nor C4CPC can co-exist.

:picard:

1. With your first fixed, i have no problems! IMPdraw v2 runs perfectly and all the demos/games i've tested too.
2. With iMPdos i have no problems too.

Unfortunately, I won't do any cartridge version for the moment...

Of course! Eventually on the real machine we now have all the software we ever did dream of! And what I really like is, that we do have it running an real CPCs/Plus! There was a trend to do everything on a PC. Well, if everything is done on a PC then the question is: Why to use a CPC at all?

Now since we have DOS for modern mass storage, new GFX programs, assemblers and so on... we CAN use our Plus / CPCs for everything - and I love that.  :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Hi,

Please use iMPdraw_210129 (https://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/applications/impdraw-v2-0/?action=dlattach;attach=33591) instead of iMPdraw_210128.
I fixed a bug corrupting windows copies.

All my apologies for my mistake ! Next time, i will do better tests instead of publishing something without testing all the effects.
That's working now ! Have a good fun.

You can rename to roms to something like "02_ROMxxx, 29_ROMyyy, 31_ROMzzz", so we can remember ROM numbers better - just if you want.  :) :) :)

Hi Duke,

I saw a new update of M4 rom (2.0.6) is now available.
I did it today but, i find the same problem with iMPdraw. When Amstrad Plus mode is actived then we've got a big reset.

Is it possible to make the same thing you did before ?
Can you explain exactly what you do ? Thanks.

It is correct that I did not add the "plus fix"  for IMPdraw &  FutureOS to latest M4 firmware.
The reason is still the behaviour of RMR2 (on PLUS) and RMR ghost register on CPC, even as the "fix" works, it is not correct behaviour, and it should act as ghost register when not in CPC plus unlocked mode. Maybe I just apply the fix and hope there is no software out there using RMR ghost register OR I make a better fix (which I haven't gotten around to finish yet). I'll make a decision soon and release an update so IMPdraw and FutureOS run out of the box on Amstrad plus series.

Thanks a lot for all the time and power you constantly invest to make the M4 even more better.  :) :) :)

Since you pressured me (I am old, soon does not mean that soon!). For now I just ignore RMR2 (ghost RMR) in CPC mode, so I don't expect any problems.

I'm trying to establish a development pipeline on the Plus at the moment - Currently using Orgams (amazing), thinking either Starkos or Soundtracker DMA and I'm a bit stuck on paint... I tried SMARTplus which seemed ok, but I couldn't really work out the interface or find any documentation... And then I discovered iMPdraw, which seemed perfect in theory - along with Orgams and Starkos, it can be installed as a ROM which is obviously a huge boon for a fast workflow...

But I'm having difficulty getting started with iMPdraw too :( I couldn't get it to enter animation mode at all, which seems kind of ideal for what I want to use it for - It also seems to bug out when I load the .scr files on the SMARTplus disk - it loads them, but then just as it finishes, it seems to go a bit nuts, lose the image and introduce a bunch of corruption. At this point, the app seems to be in a slightly weird state too and it's worthwhile to just reset.

The actual painting interface seems good enough certainly, but these are the things I want to do that I couldn't really figure out;

- Declare the size of the image (it seems there are just two sizes, a 16k or 32k canvas size, though this is different for the animation mode that I can't access?)- Load/save raw image data (preferably with both optional header and palette)
- Save a palette independently from an image

If we're thinking of things that would also be very useful, a tile-map editor would be pretty great - perhaps that warrants an entirely separate app though... I think basic assembly samples of loading/displaying images would be pretty handy too.

Any help very much appreciated, the app seems great but I obviously haven't quite gotten a grasp on it yet :)

Hi,

Did you try to read :

http://impdraw.wikidot.com/help-impdraw-english (http://impdraw.wikidot.com/help-impdraw-english)

http://impdraw.wikidot.com/ (http://impdraw.wikidot.com/)

You can load all .scr screen (17k, 32k and 33k).
When a 17k screen is loaded you must put the window where you want the screen to be, then press C key to copy your screen on the Window. That's all.
Sorry but I don't know about smart gfx.

For more informations, ask here !

Thanks! I did read that, but obviously missed the bit about pressing C to copy the screen to the window. Having done that, it seems palette loading doesn't seem to work? When I load the associated .pal file for a .scr file, it switches the mode back from Plus to CPC and doesn't load the palette. I'm guessing I might've missed something here too?

I also just had a bit of an epiphany about animation mode - the english manual says to press 'a', but actually, it's 'q' - I suppose it is 'a' on an AZERTY keyboard :) So I have that to try out now...

Hello,

IMPdraw is full compatible with the original Advanced Ocp Art Studio .pal/.scr format. Others exotics formats aren't supported.

You could easily convert your palette following this link :
http://impdraw.wikidot.com/les-fichiers-palette-ink-kit (http://impdraw.wikidot.com/les-fichiers-palette-ink-kit)

About the keyboard, it's True... IMPdraw uses azerty ! So you will have to replace
a by q, z by w, w by z and to finish q by a. The mapping uses the position of thé key, not the value (a=&41).

Have a good fun !

Hi Cpc Friends,

Latest iMPdraw version now supports UniDOS.
Same for iMPtile who uses the same I/O from iMPdraw.

Note that Albidos  is now cancelled !

A new package will come soon.
