PC to 3" Disk
« on: 02:20, 11 November 11 »
Im currently using SAMdisk to transfer between an old PC and an FD1 to use on my Speccy +3, can the same method also be used for Amstrad disks or do I need another program to do that?

Thanks in advance!

hi there

yes - SAMDisk is capable of writing CPC DSK images back to diskette - I'm only familiar with using it for CPC DSK, so perhaps the command line options are different to the ZX Spectrum usage?

elsewhere in this forum, someone wrote that they've developed a Java based GUI frontend to assist with saving diskettes to DSK, and writing DSK back to diskette. very handy!

I must be doing something wrong but I cant get either to do it, it writes to disk, I can see that happening but it wont load.  Maybe its the .dsk images themselves, im getting them from here

ahh, i tried using just one drive to write and read from instead of the two drive setup and it works, maybe they are slightly different speeds or something

That would be Markus, creator of JavaCPC (among others).

I know I posted a success but it hasnt really turned out that way to be honest, basically I may as well reveal what I wanted to do, that is, create disks from compilation disk images, I found and used CPCDiskXP, the images I have been trying to write are commercial compilations and so far only 5 star games has been successful (well, 60% successful, 3 weeks in paradise and Zoids dont work), the rest just fail on loading (Platinum collection, Myth, Times of Lore etc)
Any help is appreciated!
Btw, any +3 image I write always works strangely

Give ManageDsk a go, maybe it will give you better results?

Well I tried that and it seems the .dsk's im using are corrupt  :(
Is there another source I can get them from? Googling doesnt bring much up to be honest.

E.g. http://www.cpc-power.com/index.php?page=detail&onglet=dsk&num=1253 perhaps?

CPC-Power is usually a pretty good source for DSK images. Especially because you will probably have to get DSKs with copy protection removed.

Well at least you know what the problem is now. Where did you get the images from?

Well using the Myth image from that site was successful!  What Im really after though is compilations, especially Amtix Accolades.

I was getting my .dsk's from here and also here
