This is an activity we love here... it is called "Mockuping" and "retouching". ;)

CPCRULEZ &#9733 DEMOSCENE &#9733 DEMOSCENE GALLERY &#9733 STE'86 (STEVE DAY) (http://cpcrulez.fr/demoscene_GFX-demo-STE86-steve_day.htm)

You can find a lot in many topics, just I can't find them all.
You are more than welcome in the process, please post a lot, you will always find someone able to add such intro screen into a dump of the game.
At CPCpower you can find some games patched to have alternate intro-screen (often the case with PLUS patches).

Anyway, could you do something with Xybot then ?

To start my stuffz off, here is my retouch of the MODE 1 Victory Road title screen (my MODE 0 work looks shyte and MacDeath's above is infinitly better) and an olde PacMania rework I did last year (there's also a rework of the MODE 1 screen as well, somewhere, but I prefer this one).

EDIT: I did do a MODE 0 VICTORY ROAD (based on the Amiga/Atari screen posted by MacDeath above) a while back, but it looked shyte as it needs a lot of work on the stipples! Attached after the HEWSON stuff, below.

This AtariST one is disgusting, lol... seems graphic artists couldn't do nothing with 320x200x16 at the time...

About Victory road.... imho I would suggest a complete redo. Because the way they hold the swords is against all martial arts practice. They hold arms in an total unnatural way. Looks like they break their bones or at least get crippled. Just hurts may sense of beauty. However - no doubt - the new screen is far better.

Now think about MODE 0 and swords crossing in a flat angle, that would be something ;-)

:)   GOOD YEAR guys, the screen of victory road  by atari st  is horrible, very good pacmania, and that reworked of original screen for AMSTRAD is better, but i want a new screen with MODE 0, i'm thinking and i have some of good ideas, hope in  the next weeks of january of post the images or beta images, wait advice.
The swords are a good idea, but in the 8bit computers versions are disappears in the game, Memory problems? I don't know.

I can put on the screen only firearms if you want, or put however the swords.

should redo it from the original...

Sadly couldn't find a decent one on the internet.

Some olde projects... the SPY VS SPY single-filer and I found my Hewson reworks; CYBERNOID 2, URIDIUM (retouched MODE 1) and DevilMarkus's RANARAMA. They are attached in the .dsk file as single-file loaders.

Didn't see the Spy vs. Spy screen yet.
Very well done!

Didn't see the Spy vs. Spy screen yet.
Yeah, I found it a few days ago in one of my darker CPC directories and decided to overscan it, retouch it and Exomise it onto one file.

Here's a link to my Spellbound title screens - Converting a game to ROM - and LOTS of ROM files inside! (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/games/how-to-convert-a-dsk-image-to-rom/msg69032/#msg69032)

And, finally for now, I thought I'd posted my C64 loading screen recolours, but I've just checked through my attachments and I cannot find them, so I'll post them here. They're not great, but some of them could serve as replacements for the CPC ones. RUN"VIEWC64S" to start, press any key to load next screen... they wrap to the beginning once you've seen all the screens.

There was talk about MIDNIGHT RESISTANCE in another thread... so I thought I'd have a quick look and see if I could get something less blue, MODE 1 and obviously ripped from the Speccy! No prizes for guessing that I fecked it up... but here they are incase someone wants to spend a few seconds retouching them.

The top one is GiMPed from the Amiga screen and the bottom one is recoloured from the C64 screen.

For those who want to keep the MODE 1 feel of the actual game... here's a MODE 1 version of the Amiga screen.
(GiMP patterned dither, then retouched a lot in MSPAINT)

I count 15: white, pastel yellow, yellow, pink, red, dark red, orange, green, bright green, grey, cyan, blue, bright blue, pastel blue, black

There could be another green variant hiding in there too.  It's a very good conversion.

I've found a "useful" site with a whole whack of C64 loading screens... a few of them could be used for CPC screens.
I'm tempted to do another compilation disk at some point (work permitting), but here are a few I've had some time to look at this evening!

EDIT: Surprisingly, the most impressive of the four six ten was the one that took the least time to recolour. In all, I'd say it looks fecking amazing as a CPC screen! If I get a few minutes, I'll try to redo the NINJA MASSACRE .dsk file.

EDIT: I'll try to find some C64 screens that MusicMan3512 hasn't already converted! ^_^

Because you can only post 10 images/files per post, I'm gonna do a sneaky double-post despite it being against forum etiquette. But, seeing as I don't even know what etiquette means, I'm doing it anyway in blind ignorance of what I am doing wrong!

Etiquette: the customary code of polite behaviour in society or among members of a particular profession or group.

I think you're in the clear :)

One more little batch of recoloured C64 images.

EDIT: I will not mention here that the PUFFY'S SAGA screen looks suspiciously like the Amiga/AtariST screen for FLIMBO'S QUEST. Oh, there's a couple of recolours of the C64 and Amiga screens for that somewhere around here, too!

I don't even remember half the titles...
I will confess that a lot of these screens are probably C64 only games and so never even made it to CPC. If, in future, someone wants to convert any of them, they can have a free, authentic-esque loading/title screen for it! ^_^

And so to another little batch of recolours. I might do one more batch after this one, as the screens that I have left are getting a little poor.

I feel is a shame only being able to see this picture in this thread. Could you make a nice slideshow for being able to see them in the real CPC?

It doesn't need to be something complex, only show one screen, load the next, transition fx and start again. It could be a nice little project for testing routines for making transitions (having 3 or 4 and select in random order).

And of course, if you need help with the code, i'm sure that me and others can improvise a few routines for helping. What do you think? ;)

I've finally spent a few minutes getting some of those great C64 pictures from the X-2014 Graphics Compo to the CPC palette. There were a few that were pretty obvious and some that needed a bit more thought. Anyway, enjoy (if you want...)

All original images can be viewed from CSDB - [CSDb] - X'2014 (24 - 26 October 2014) (http://csdb.dk/event/?id=2082)

I guess I am just a creature of habit. When pr0n takes too long to download, one's idle hands turn to pixels... and their inevitable recolouring!
This first batch is of PSYTRONIK games, so a big apology to STE as a lot of these are his original works.

Shall we?

And finally, before Chrimbo, a few little titles I had floating around in various directories. Yes, my boredom extends to checking old directories on HDs I thought were dead... and nearly are in some cases.

Anyway, less talk more pixels, no?

How odd.  I was really liking that Commando one and it hit me... it looks like I've unintentionally homaged it even though I never seen it before.

Guy in center from waist up holding gun on right side of screen.  One half of background in reds, other half in blues, frickin' big 'COMMANDO' logo along the bottom?

It's giving the impression I created a futuristic sequel to the original Commando (when actually they're two completely different and unrelated games).
STE's background work is better.  He managed to fit actual scenes whereas I just did 'spacey crap' in the gaps.   I have been thinking of reowrking my image and making extra space on the sides though to make it a 320 width pic rather than 256 since the game itself is now 320 pixels wide but it would involve a loooootttt of rejigging composition stuff...  Although I would like to simply put a bit of distance between the two characters so that would help.

Was STE the best loading image artist?   Cos from what I've seen of his images he sure seems to be.  Often produces stunning work (and quite often to games you then get disappointed with cos the in-game art bydifferent artists looks nowhere near as good).

But it should be you, the day you stop create mockups for working on real CPC games.  :-*
(understanding that making fake CPC games running on PC is worst than using CPC with RAM expansions)

By the way, amazing picture that remember me the Metroid Corruption cover.  8)

Nah, those guys are better than me with loading screens (I much prefer doing sprites).  I'm having a hell of a time coming up with one for RoboCop: Prime (I really want to do something that isn't just a copy of a movie screenshot or poster.  I've been posing my action figures to try get some ideas  ;) ).
And what mockups?  They are real playable games, they're just being developed on PC first cos that's what I know how make games on, I wouldn't have a clue how to code them on CPC.  That's up the real CPC coders once I'm done.  :)

Quote
(understanding that making fake CPC games running on PC is worst than using CPC with RAM expansions)

I don't even know what that means.   I'm using actual CPC games as guidelines (RoboCop Prime is mostly based on the original RoboCop game but if it was created for 128k and floppy disk)

He means that you write stuff that looks like CPC, but it runs only on the PC. And yes, why the PC? For writing a game on the PC I would use all it's power, as I use all the CPC's power to write games for the CPC.
I do understand that you learnt how to write stuff for the PC and not for the CPC, so you go for this platform. But there is just no gain for CPC users that way.  :-X

Captain Blood is so cool.
I'm very much into doing some screens myself :)
I understand the easiest way is working on Photoshop with a special CPC index palette. On the other hand it would be more cool to work on actual CPC with Art Studio etc.. What do you suggest?

Planning to do my version of Commando, which is for some stupid reason one of my favorite games in almost all retro platforms, lol.

With photoshop you can make miracles on the cpc as they do to many demos nowdays also on C64.
But it looks "unnatural", I would go with art studio (need a mouse  :picard: ) for the original feeling  ;D

We use Photoshop for our adventure because Dani is a graphics artist that professionally employs this tool everyday. I just basically told him the limitations of the Mode 1, gave him the info about the color palette and he did the rest :). This approach works extremely well in his hands, but probably the feeling is better with Art Studio, as Vicent says  :D

That's the main reason I got myself @talrek (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1195) 's Dk'tronics mouse interface clone and found a Genius mouse :)
Let's get on work and see if this hunger for the "original feeling" will prove itself a torture or not, after using photoshop on all kind of workstations for almost 20 years :)

It's more fat than wonder  ::)

Well, personally I never liked that pic of this two brats. The pic as the game need a complete redo on CPC. If somebody wants to do the GFX I can provide my Giana Sisters engine for it.

Captain Blood is so cool.

Would only need a bit of refactoring of the font :)

Nice work. But may be too fast... You forget to recolor many pixels and some 1:1 to 2:1 ratio was not properly done.
You left a wrong black colour too, that made your picture able to look beter with 16 instead of 15.
About the cyan usage, it is not ok. Will look better using gray instead...  8)

I had to zoom in to check this is original CPC palette and it is, via extremely heavy dither but it works, and I presume even more so on a CPC's CRT monitor. :)
