Hi folks!

I finally got my Symbiface II working and I'm trying to make it boot from the CF or a Hard Disk.

I get Symbos to see the ide devices, copy the system files to it, point the system directory to the directory where the files are located, but it does not appear to recognize it.

When I boot, and click on the icons, nothing happens.

When I have everything copies I save the settings file and copy it to the ide device.

Did I miss something?

I might be going insane, but I thought you could only boot the OS from ROM or the Floppy drive, and then hold content i.e. games and music on the IDE drives.  :blank:

Yep, the thing I'm trying to do is boot from rom and have all the applications and data files in the ide device.

But, when I boot from rom I cannot get symbos to recognize where its applications have been stored, for example in "C:\OS".

I created a settings file in which the data files directory points to the right directory in my ide device, and copied it to the root of the ide device. When I click the icons, nothing happens.

So, I don't know what am I doing wrong and the manual doesn't help much either...  :)

I've had the same problems... I can boot from the ROM, but can't then access the applications unless I put an application disk in the floppy drive. Then it works a treat! A pain in the arse, but I've never given it the time of day in order to work out if it can be done. I imagine a software update is available, but again I haven't really pursued things.

Yup - I hit this last year (there's a thread about it somewhere on the forum).  You have to have the floppy disc in the drive and that config has the 'C:\' setting.  it is a pain to boot from disc and then it picks everything up from the CF card, but it does work.
There was mention that "someone" (with the right skills) could modify the ROM directy to have the 'C:\' setting in it by default.
I never heard any further news....
I got hold of the Basic ROM Manager from FutureOS - so I could manage the ROMs in the SF2 card and since then, I haven't actually used SymbOS (which is a shame as I did like it).  It'd be nice of the author to publish the source (open-source) so willing people could make modifications, but until then we're stuck with what we have.

Thing is, that I set the system directory to a directory in the ide device but nothing happens when I press the icons, I don't even get an error message. It just simply don't work.

And yes, it's a pain having to use a disk to be able to access the applications. There must be a way...

I admit I met some problems too when installing SYMBOS some monthes ago but finally I managed to make it booting from my CF Card and all the datas are really restored (icons on the desktop, start menu...). It's great! :) But I can't remember exactly the way I did it...
Some infos:
In my config, it NEEDS to have a disc in the drive (any DISC, not the SYMBOS one!), probably because I don't have a good READY signal on my 3.5" drive.
My config :
* CONTROL PANEL/SYSTEM/GENERAL : System Path c:\
Don't forget to save the CONFIG in CONTROL PANEL/FILE/SAVE SETTINGS
If interested I could copy all my CF Card files to you in order to try on your CF...
