Title: 3.5" Drive Needed
Post by: ComSoft6128 on 21:29, 03 May 18
I am looking for:

1. One 3.5" drive for a 6128 Plus.
2. Ribbon cable for the above - NO switches.
3. Power supply.

If anyone can provide me with the above please PM me with price.

Thanks,

Peter

I'm clearing out stuff at the moment and probably have a suitable drive for you, I'll check at the weekend.

As you mention Power supply, I assume you want to connect it externally?

Bryce.

Thanks Bryce,

Yes I would be looking at an external power supply.

Cheers,

Peter

As most 3.5in drives only need 5V, the neatest solution would be to take a branch off the 5V supply to the CPC (assuming your CPC supply has some reserve power).

The 6128 Plus is connected to a large screen TV and is used mainly for demos and an old program (1992?) called "Display 3" which loads in 17K screens and displays them sequentially. On a Romdos D20 disk that is about 40 screens, the previous drive (bought last year and now dead) took power from the monitor and each time a screen was loaded the TV picture shimmered/jumped (not sure the technical term) for a few seconds until disk access was finished. This, again not using a technical term, looks utter shite >:( .
The original drive from the early nineties, with an external PSU, didn't cause this irritating effect.

If there is a problem locating a UK type power supply what about an adaptor that could be used with a local PSU?

Cheers,

Peter

I do have [somewhere] a 3.5" drive which I modified slightly to use a micro usb power supply. A very easy mod to do, and, well - who hasn't got a spare usb power adapter :) I haven't performed any other mods on it though.

I'll try dig it out this weekend.

Most 3.5in floppy drives only require around 250mA maximum, so almost any 5V supply would be fine.

Thanks for the replies,

I'm looking for a Plug and Play option with no user (me) input or modifications required.
The mere thought of getting anywhere near a soldering iron brings me out in a cold sweat. :o

Cheers,

Peter
