Title: GX4000 boxed + 2 carts for sale
Post by: kris2222 on 13:32, 28 June 25
Hi guys!

Would anyone be interested in buying this set?

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ClkXmmH42vW-tUasnV03b6pbqXBsZU3L

A complete boxed GX4000, very good
/mint condition. The set includes 2 cartridges - c4cpc and 32 in 1. There is also an extra PSU and TV cable for RGB picture.

€500 plus shipping would be good for me, offers also welcome.

Shipped from Poland.

I think for 500€, you may include the shipping with insurance to the UE or sell it on eBay.

So,.everyone, if the price is too high, offer yours. We may well find a common ground.

It's very unfortunate that the C4CPC has become such a major factor in all this.
The GX-4000 was practically worthless just ten years ago.
While the C4CPC is now rare and highly desirable, that alone doesn't justify the current high price.
It's a very troubling situation for the entire community -- I can't imagine newcomers being willing to play Sonic GX on real hardware now with such a high barrier to entry.
Please take note @kris2222 that I'm not after you specifically -- it's simply the reality of the situation and I know it's pretty common now, it sucks to see this in 2025.

Ok, as this is a community forum, here you go:

GX4000 - the recent Ebay completed auctions show the price of about €180
C4cpc - I paid €70 for it
32in1 - I paid €40
RGB cable plus extra PSU - €30 let's say.

So, that makes €310.

Considering (both carts?) are not available, is €400 for my set fair?

How much are these carts going for today? I have no idea.

500 is feasible. I saw C4CPC being sold for 300 and mint condition GX4000 is also rarely found for less than 200.

And it's pointless to argue that it was cheap years ago. The C4CPC is no longer available and nobody was willing to create an alternative - so that's it. It's worth what people are paying for it.

I agree this keeps people away from discovering the GX4000 - but it would be the same if it would be cheap - the reason is that it's rare. The only difference is who will be discovering it: now it's those that are willing to pay a lot.

That being said you probably need to sell on eBay with at least EU shipping to get the 500 as it's on the edge of what will be paid and you need to find the collectors.

As you can see I'm not pushing for 500.

I hate Ebay, I don't sell there.

Thank you for the information.

As I mentioned earlier, you could try selling this product on eBay, especially if it's your reference.

In my opinion, this offer is not at all suitable for a forum. Generally, you have to halve the eBay price to match reality. Then it's a choice: sell for enthusiasts or sell to make money. The problem here is that you paid twice as much for your GX4000 on eBay as elsewhere. And personally, I wouldn't spend more than €150 today for a GX4000 with an everdrive. :-\

As I pointed out, I don't sell on Ebay.
Also, I did not not buy my GX4000 on Ebay, and did not pay that much. I was only quoting Ebay price.
The thing is, I'm selling this because I need money, so I need to make money.
Once again, I'm open to offers, but €150 is too low for me.
Here, I could sell it for Ebay (market) price with some reasonable, maybe considerable, discount.

The whole set cost me much more than €150, at regular prices, not Ebay prices, a good few years back [mind there are 2 carts).

I'm not able to change the inintial post, but my offer price is €440 now.

My bad, I have misread your prices list. Anyway, I think the interesting items are :
- GX4000 in box with its original PSU (where is the original video cable?)
- C4CPC cartridge

The third party PSU and the 32-in-1 cartridge have no extra value here.
I doubt you can sell it for more than 299€ on a forum, sorry... It is not eBay.

Good luck! ;)

A lot of eBay pricing for retro hardware is based on small groups "trading" between themselves for inflated pricing (which never really needs to be paid) to create an inflated sense for how valuable retro hardware is (since so many use eBay as a metric).

Unless you know someone willing to pay that much, if take the average pricing there with a very large pinch of salt.

I think everyone uses Ebay as metric, not only for retro stuff, but for everything. Is there a better metric? I don't know any.

Is the "insider trading" a fact or a conspiracy theory? I doubt the phenomenon personally, as they would have to make more transactions than the real ones to influence the market. But if you have any proof of that, it would be interesting to discover and I would be happy to be proved wrong.

Quote from: Egg Master on 14:37, 29 June 25The third party PSU and the 32-in-1 cartridge have no extra value here.

Why?

The third party PSU is a 5V PSU for another power socket. It is necessary either for.RGB or the c4cpc, I don't remember now. This thing won't work with the regular PSU or it is dangerous for the board (also don't remember, it was long time ago :))).

The 32in1 has value to.me. Once you print the case for it and set a game on it, it feels more like using a real cart than an everdrive, since you don't have to use any menu and the game starts at power-on. Plus, the cart costs money too. On this forum someone was looking for one and could not find any.

An extra third-party 5V power supply doesn't change the final price. The 32-in-1 cartridge is useless, while the C4CPC is offered here. If it has value to you, keep it or sell it to another GX4000 user. The C4CPC can also directly boot 32 game slots, without using the on-screen menu. :)

The PSU is worth a few € plus it frees the buyer from looking for the correct one, which is not obvious. I had to ask for advice on this forum to make sure.

The 32in1 is not about the utility, but about the feel. It has no value to you. It may have to a buyer. I know a lot of Atari users who have multiple carts which do exactly the same, the only difference is in the design, way of working and the interface. I'm pretty sure there are such GX4000 users too.

But TBH I didn't know C4CPC can boot games from slots directly as well.

When estimating value, it's best to refer to the 'Sold Items' prices on eBay rather than current listings, as the latter can often be overpriced.
Be sure to factor in eBay fees, which typically amount to around 12 to 13%.
These fees help provide buyer protection, and as long as the seller uses a tracked shipping method, they offer protection to the seller as well.

List the C4CPC for sale here — someone will definitely be interested.

Of coutse I looked at sold items. The fees can be higher, I tried it once and they were close to 20% on a modded Xbox.

OK, if I put C4CPC up for sale here, hou much, in your opinion, should I ask? On the one hand, to get some satisfactory price, on the other - not to offend/ trigger anyone?

It's real enough for eBay to have a policy against it: https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/selling-practices-policy/shill-bidding-policy/policies/selling-policies?id=4353

Very hard to prove though unless you're prepared to spend a lot of time monitoring sales.

It doesn't work for generic items, you need things to have enough scarcity that they don't show up often enough on eBay. Which is why retro computers are quite a "good" place for these kinds of things to operate. A 6128+ or Sam Coupe doesn't come up often but has desirability amongst a niche group and some people have several from back when they could be picked up dirt cheap. So if you can "sell" it between similar friends, you can quite easily bump the price that people see (and it has a knock on effect of others trying to sell there items at inflated prices, making it seem more legit).

There are still almost weekly 'I'd like a C4CPC' posts on this forum so it might be worth sending out some PMs.  But the combo of boxed console with C4CPC is a dream combo to new GX users.  Not sure potential new users will be hanging around here though.  Facebook?

C4CPC prices are probably at a high right now so a good time to sell, if @gerald announces new stock there'll be a crash.  I'm guessing the release of Sonic will generate a new wave of GX interest because of its cross-console appeal.

It's still an open question just how many GX consoles themselves are out there, they're probably not as scarce as prices would have you believe though.

Finally, may be the best will be to sell:
- GX4000 with 32-in-1 cartridge from a side (150€)
- C4CPC only, from the other (250€)

I'm still looking to get a C4CPC or alternative myself, after several years trying. I have a GX ready to go, gathering dust. This situation has persisted for so long now it's kind of ridiculous, with people asking about availability being something of a recurring joke on the forum. Is there really nobody in the community interested in developing a new flashcart for the GX/Plus? Is it because there is a lingering feeling that Gerald might do it one day?
