I know the guy selling that 664. He is not am Amstrad fan but a retro-computing seller in general and he is trustworthy although not the cheapest one  :) . He had some 6128 Plus that were actually sold but the 664 seems to be still there...

I have seen that already. I think that it has been on eBay for a while now. Again looks in good condition. A bit odd though that nobody has brought it, considering that someone has just bid and paid almost the same price for the other one. Unless of course they haven't seen this one?

People get carried away bidding so the price gets forced up at the last minute. The trick with Buy It Now is to price it slightly too high but take offers.

That's how I got my MSX. I put in what I was prepared to pay and the seller accepted. That £195 664 will be on Ebay to the end of time along with the 400 quid 6128 Plus and other such "bargains".

As for the 664, it really is the runt of the litter looks wise. Simply doesn't interest me. Amstrad axing it was a mercy killing.

Too bad he does not have two or three to buy several copies.

Not really killed it, the 664 was a stop-gap model; I remember reading a quote from AMS hinting (none too subtly, I may add) at the 128k model when the 664 came out.

I just noticed this offer:
CPC464 Handbuch Neu und original eingeschweißt. Sammlerstück TOP-Zustand |

I'm a bit confused here. Was the manual shipped in shrink-wrap? As far as I can remember it wasn't but the auction suggests so.

I never remember it being shrink wrapped. The computer itself wasn't.

All was already inside the box so was already protected.
It may have been in a plastic bag inside the box .... can't remember.

All this shrink wrap craziness!

CPC games were also sold without shrink wrap. Well 95% of them. Some were fixed to a cardboard sheet and in a plastic cover. So if you see it shrink wrapped, it means they have shrink wrapped it, it wasn't shrink wrapped to being with.

Yes it was. I still have 1 or 2 of them in the original plastic wrapping.

Thanks, TFM!

For some reason I expected a book with spiral binding not to be wrapped in plastic, and I can't remember if I unwrapped the 6128 manual when I got the CPC in '85.

The later manuals weren't spiral bound.

Yes, I know! But the one offered in the ebay auction and my 6128 manual are.

I have a full set of BBC Master Manuals (4 books) which are spiral bound and still in their original shrink-wrap.

For sure, the Spanish manual of my 6128 is a normal softcover book, no spirals at all. In fact, I first saw the spirals when I came to UK, it was surprising  :)

That means that the AMSDOS ROM is not initialized, but I see the power LED on at the drive. So I assume the ROM in the DDI-1 controller is either missing or ... gone bad!  :o

Which probably just means that the edge connector needs cleaning.
