Being relatively new here, I was just wondering; when do you guys start thinking about nominations for the annual CPC-Wiki awards? You know the sort of stuff; Best Demo, Best Game, Best CPC Utility, Best Crossdev Utility, Best Coder, Best Artist, Best Musician, Best Coding Group (demo, game or utility), Breakthrough Application (demo, game or utility), , Most Influential Poster, Best Thread, Best Individual Post, Best Introduction To A Game Called Zynaps By Hewson Consultants, etc, etc ... (the more the merrier!)

I am guessing you guys create secret polls for the Top 5 of each category in the first few weeks of January, to be announced some time in February, right?

We still have a few games and demos MIA, but it might be nice to add them to this year's list!
Hint! Hint! Nudge! Nudge! Say no more!

(Ok, Best Demo might be a little stacked in "a certain production's" favour, but runner-up could be one of... well, four others! ^_^)

Gryzor

A good idea... I like it. You forgot Best Hardware Project, but I think it's all there.
Concerning users, actually last night I was looking into this. Basically it allows for badges to be awarded to members, as seen in other boards. So if someone won something he could wear it proudly for the rest of the year under his avatar. What do you think?
I'd there's any interest I'll open another thread for nominations :)

Hardware isn't really my stong suit! *Ahem*

I was hoping more knowledgable people would recommend awards for the real-touchy stuff!
How about Most Anticipated Hardware Project of 2012?

There are quite a few people here that don't get the recognition they deserve... usually because people like me steal the limelight! (Yeah, sorry about that and all!) It would be nice to have special awards for these people and have them visible for all to see! ^_^

While I don't think it's a bad idea, I'll just mention that the thing I like about CPCwiki over e.g. Push'n'Pop, is that CPCwiki isn't too demoscene oriented.
It's not that I don't like the demoscene. I love watching demo's. But I've never felt like a part of the demoscene, because I don't compete much.
To me, the CPC is for nostalgia and cozy retro gaming.

That's why I visit CPCwiki forum instead of Push'n'Pop. I think it's great to have 2 different-oriented sites like that, and I think it would be a shame if one of them changed too much towards the style of the other.
Do you need music for your Amstrad CPC game project?
Take a look at IndieGameMusic.com - that's where I put my tracks.

Gryzor

But... this is not going to be about demos only. Best Demo will only be one category among many!

TFM

Well, I would like to suggest another category: What's about best OS starting with the Letter "F"?  ;D

*ROFL* I wouldn't mind SuckOS either

Maybe we should add some hardware categories too, like: Fastest CPC on three wheels, biggest expansion board, smallest monitor or maybe something serious?

I would pretend to be the most trollish troll... no more. ;D

But more seriously, we should first sum-up the whole list of what was released this year (2011) first.

Locomotive Basic still wins.

but with those neat USB-mouse interface available, this could change at last...

Yeah, I'd vote for sticking with serious categories :)

the year is not finished yet.

is there categories in the wiki for each year's releases?

so you can look and see what was released in 2010?

Gryzor

Really? Damn, and I had started wondering why my week doesn't line up with my 2012 calendar :D

Well, there's no need for 2011 to end before we start working on this - and yes, we're waiting for a few more releases, like R-Type and Bubble Bobble...

No categories as far as I remember, good idea though...

Is, a pre-selection exist for doing a "vote"?
When can you do it. Fall December or begin of January?

Optimus

While it's a good idea, selection will be quite easy with the lack of enough CPC releases.
I miss charts since Demoniak 6 or 7 I think.

Gryzor

Listing can begin now, results can close somewhere in January 2012...

TotO

I suggest the "Best CPC Wiki topic" :
http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/games/zynaps-title-music-on-emulators/ (100 likes  :o )

Others topic to fight ? Pony pony run run ?

Gryzor

Hm, interesting! A few topics with lots of likes there, but Likes should not be the only criterion; if nothing else, it was not introduced from the beginning of 2011... But a nice start.

On course not, since (as you mentioned before) the Likes do like the posts and not the topic per se.

Except "likes", this topic content is not enough ? ;)

May I suppose something...

We should consider solely "Best" categories and NOT use "Worst" categories. Keep it positive! The scene is small enough, and there is no need to kick the balls of somebody who tried to contribute, but failed. There are other reasons too, and for again different - but important - reasons I'm not going to mention them.

No, no... I'm man enough to admit it! I'd win them ALL, hands-down!
If there's something I can do right, it's fail! ^_^
