Hi, I have been working through the list of books on the wiki, and there is some useful stuff amongst it all.

What I was wondering is whether we could add a column to mark whether the scanned content is complete, incomplete, or non-existant, as this would make it a lot more useful when trying to find something, rather than just randomly clicking titles to find that their is no content.

I would happily make this edit if approved...

Hi Lachlank

This is a great idea, I thought a while back to do something similar - for exactly the same reason. I have quite a few CPC related books, which I am willing to scan. But as I don't want to damage my CPC books and therefore cannot use a "sheet feeder" (not sure it's the right english term) So I have to scan every page individually, this is a time consuming process and I really only want to do it if a given book has not allready been scanned.

An extra coloumn would be very helpfull. Suggested entries could be: Online, Partially Online or Not online. Or something that sounds better!

So I see no reason why this should not be done! And I am in favour of this idea!

Of course a great idea, I see no reason why we should not do it, and why it would not be 'approved'... :D

FYI

I own about 270 English Amstrad CPC and Z80 books and booklets, excluding duplicates, magazines and booklets accompanying games.

It includes 6 issues of the 3D Construction Kit User Club Newsletters, which I guess are quite rare.  I believe this is the complete set.

Incidentally, one of the books is a mint condition copy of the CPC464 User Instructions, still unopened in it's original clear plastic wrapper.

There may be a few more books hidden away at the back of the garage, but I cannot be sure.

OK I've added a column for "scanned", there aren't actually many... Have only done english, as that's the only language I speak ;)

So I would ask any of the lucky owners of the original books that if and when they have the time it would be great to add more content! Especially the more technical titles...

270 books??? This is crazy... How come you gathered all this?

270 books?!!! wow.... I thought I was doing well at 37 originals [my list of books]  (note non-huge URL  :D )  I would love to see the full list....

OMG..  You have a lot of nice stuff.....

I will try and compile a list of my CPC related books I think it's around 30 (also thought I was doing well) but 270!!!! :o that's massive - would also love to see a full list!!!!

@Ygdrazil:

You have prompted me to prepare a 'full' list, by slaving away yesterday and today.
It won't actually be a full list as I know there are many more (mainly manuals for using disc/tape software) which are currently inaccessible.

I prepared the list using Microsoft Excel, but filetype .XLS appears not to be uploadable on this forum, so I have saved it as a comma-separated file with extension .TXT .

I suggest you view this with Excel in landscape mode.
To do this, first get into Excel, then take the menupath File -> Open.  Select the option Delimited by Comma.
Landscape mode is selected via the menupath File -> Page Setup -> Page (tab).

Notes:

1 Items having titles starting with 'The' or 'A' or 'An' have had that first word moved to the end of the title.

2. In the ID column Soft XXX refers to tape-based software manuals and Soft XXXX or Soft 0XXXX refers to disc-based software manuals.

3. In the ID column, the first letter identifies the item (publication) type
These ID's are currently defined:
B = Book or Booklet (a booklet has staples or loose sheets)
C = [Sales] Catalogue
E = Errata sheets, usually stapled
G = Game manual
H = Hardware manual
M = Magazine or Newsletter (issued periodically)
R = Reference Card or Sheets (usually UNstapled)
S = Serious Software/Firmware manual

4. The most difficult items to classify are manuals describing hardware (H) as the bulk of the manual usually describes the item's firmware rather than the hardware itself.  Therefore a number of H items may be mis-identified in the list.

5. The list has 290 items of which I have identified 126 as being genuine books 'B'.  However, many of the items I have identified as 'S' are really books, especially in appearance, but they relate to only one specific item of tape/disc serious software, so I think 'S' is a more helpful classification.

6. I doubt the list is totally accurate as it was produced very rapidly.
