i love the cpc gamebase cd absolutely fan bloody tastic !!!!!!!

one thing that i think is missing that  would be awesome...... its the magazine scores.

it would be a good reference point to see what the rating of a game was as scored by the magazines.

see the attachments for my idea.

Gryzor

Now there's an idea!!!

Btw, this is not the Gamebase, that's another project. I don't remember, maybe it does have the ratings in it, so they can be extracted?

I can send him your suggestions. With some luck I'll be meeting him tomorrow...  8)

Like Robcfg said, you're running CPCGCD.

Gamebase (or GB for short) has two parts: one is the Gamebase itself which is the engine driving it all and providing the UI, and the various databases (thy exist for many systems, like ST, Amiga, c64, Speccy, CPC, you name it). Along with the databases comes the content as well, consisting of the games, music files, ads, maps, cheats, info, screenshots, all that.

The downside of GB is that it requires some setting up and is pretty quirky. You can find GBCPC here.

yeah that would be great, many thanks  ;D

i have another question regarding the gamescd......

i was having trouble with anarchy so i deleted it from the gamescd but how can i get it back so it shows up in the gamescd instead of me having to load it in manually ?

i did download anarchy again and put the .dsk file in the correct folder so i believe but it wont load from the front end i have to insert it manually into the emulator ?

i thought i was using the GB lol oh well this games cd is pretty damn awesome would love to see the game ratings from the mags in it as well would make it complete .....

was looking through the wrestling games and i couldnt remember any of them and having the game ratings next to it would be really good way to compare certain games and find out more about them....

ill go have a look at the gbcpc and hope its not too quirky or tricky to set up ?

I had luck and met Miguelsky today, he said that he'll talk to the creator of the program, but also that we could edit the excel file that act as database and insert the field, with a bit of luck it will work right away.

Even better :) I talked to TroeslK and he thinks is can be easily added, we only need a feed for the ratings... Any ideas? Probably it will be in the next release :)

For the Anarchy problem you say, how did you delete the game? From the database in .XML file? Perhaps you could re-enter the missing line again. Other solution is re-create the collection or even download the entire file again.

a feed for the ratings ? im not sure or know of if there is a complete list of game ratings -
its been a while since i been doing cpc stuff so have no idea if one exists out there, if there is not, maybe its a matter of going through each mag and getting the ratings that way ?
very tedious and time consuming i know i would help if thats how it was to be done.
as for deleting the anarchy file it was a month or so ago and i think i deleted it from the folder that it was in "arcade" and then downloaded a file from TACGR and put in back in the "arcade" folder but it wouldnt run / load up from the cpcgames cd i had to load it manually through the emulator.

Ah, now I understand you. Surely the dsk and/or even zip file names are not the same than the older ones. Perhaps renaming both makes the trick. Same for the start command if different.
All of them must be "anarchy". Try and tell us, please :)

EDIT: Ah, better option. Extract the files from dsk and put them into the Anarchy folder into the Arcade folder: this game is in CPCLoader format. That is why it is not working.

Gryzor

Yup, that's the reason. CPCGCD uses simple files, not disk images, so putting a dsk there won't work.

Well, not for all the games: some of them are till in dsk format, ie that with data in sectors.

In reference to the feed for the ratings, if any list can't be used, the scores from CPC GAME REVIEWS seem to be a good option.

if there isnt id still prefer to see the magazine ratings from AA, ACU, AMTIX and im happy to go through them and collate them and send through when its done but it would take some time i couldnt just do it over night or in a week.

im sure AA had in one of their issues a listing of every game they reviewed and the ratings for them ?

im not sure but i will ask Neil Reive if he came across anything like that in his research for AA118 - get back to you on that one.

AA did a Complete Budget Games Round-up in Issue 98 (pages 46 & 47), but these were marked based on the 5-point Star System with the worst games given Zilch! It's not by any means a definitive.

I wasn't sure how you were going to deal with how AA reviewed their games since they always gave different scores for the same game when it was re-released and in one situation "The Hunt For the Red October" was reviewed twice as a Commercial Game.  ;D

I sent Neil Reive an email yesterday and hopefully he is not too busy atm and looks at his emails .... i did have a look through AA118 last night and there is an attachment / file / disk which included among other things every game reviewed by AA so that would be good if we can get our hands on that list and you can import them into the cpc games cd files............

cpc4eva

TA DA !!!!!!!

Neil Reive emailed me back and sent me a file / spreedsheet of every AA game review -

who wants it and to what email / where do i send it ?

cheers  ;D ;D
