Hello guys,
Just to let you know that the wiki's homepage has been toyed with and as a result I find it loads significantly faster... I'll continue to try to optimize things a bit...

Since we're at it, anyone here uses the AddThis tool that exists on every page? I do get a few hits every week, but if it's not from people in here I'd prefer to get rid of it for speed's sake...
Cheers

Just looked at a couple of wiki pages, did not see the addthis tool, nor do I know what it does, but if I did then we would see if it useful to many people.

It's on the very top of each article box (just below the Page Discussion Edit History... line). A little - tiny- applet with options to share or print the article. If you have edited your .hosts file you probably don't see it...

Found it, had to click "more" to get to it, I do not use these sharing sites so it is unlikely that I would use it, however others might, so it would be prudent to keep it.

I just don't understand the concept of those sites, I signed up to twitter without really understanding what it was about and quckly realised it wasn't really meant to be a means to contact anyone! And yet some local radio talk stations allow you to contact them via this by going to their place on twitter!

Perhaps they make more sense in the sense I might have a page on there and frequently posted fantasy stories for people to follow.
So I don't really understand how it would apply for a website kind of thing, perhaps the Wiki could post the latest news on the CPC?, but all that is on here anyway, likewise if people want to find CPC related stuff, you would use a Search Engine!

Well, it's a bit tough. I don't like Twitter much; but a couple of weeks ago I joined a big demonstration here in Athens and, through Twitter on my phone, I followed the progress and (most importantly) violent outbrakes and clashes. It was a bit of a revelation.

It doesn't have much meaning if you don't have any followers, to be sure. But indeed, for the Wiki, we could make an account, or even use a hash (#cpc, #cpcwiki, #amstrad etc) and publish announcements on the most interesting events - new game releases, new devices by Bryce, new projects...

Sounds like the perfect tool to have - text your followers while punching up some scum!

That's really the problem, attracting followers, obviously not designed for something dull, perhaps more of an informative means since it's limited to the amount of text it allows, I'm a bit puzzled as to what advantage it would have over sending emails.

It depends. Currently I'm using it like an alternate RSS feed, following some mobile devs and a couple of publications that I can check out on my mobile...

It's less invasive than email - I'd tweet something that happened on the wiki (say, maintenance status) much easier than sending a mass email...

Also nice banner with the Forum highlighter... ;)

Ah! You noticed... :) But we probably need a better image.
