CPCWiki crash

Hello guys,

As you may have noticed (I'm sure lots did, because when we came back online 80 users stormed in at once

) the server went down early this morning, European time.

Unfortunately I had to be out for most of the day so couldn't take care of it, and therefore the server only got back a few minutes ago. The issue was caused because the database ran out of space and crashed (and burned). Bad.

Anyhow, the good news is, we're online.

The bad news is, we lost one day's worth of data. You see, every morning around 6am Greece time we take a backup of the server data plus a backup of the database dump. This happens remotely. We're so unlucky that today the host of the backup server did a security upgrade and so the backup server was unavailable - and the backup was never done! Talk about star alignment...

So I'm afraid every post here on the wiki, plus any edits on the wiki itself, that happened from early morning yesterday (Friday - the last post was MacDeath's) and after that is lost. Apologies...

I'm sure that any MacDeath post had approximately the word count of a days worth of postings, so we really haven't lost that much

Kinda makes me glad I am working on the Dizzy Compilation carts... and therefore did not have a ton of games to upload LOL.

I got some nice plus palette screens for the remake of the Dizzy spinoffs by the way, 2 splash screens.... 1 menu background... I am loving b-ASIC even if only 1.1 is 64k (therefore GX4000 friendly) it still does just what I need with the palette.

I was enquiring about the Driller Backdrop from Retro Gamer 141 article. Wasn't sure if it was from the Amstrad version.

I was also suggesting that perhaps the Codemasters CD-ROM might of been a Flop, because anyone who could afford it, probably have their Codemasters games transferred to Disc with Bonzo (Super) Meddler. My folks wouldn't have been able to afford it if it had come out here, it would of been something like $45 to $50 and CD-Players were still a bit rich for my folks.

But back to the topic, I've noticed this site had been going down leading up to this crash. Always seemed to be around 1pm & 3pm, I think when the site when down it was similar time and we're GMT+10 if that's any clue. The site always got back online (or so it seemed) late in our afternoon (early morning Europe time).

@AMSDOS : yep, sometimes, depending on the load, it becomes unresponsive in early morning European time for a few minutes, which is when maintenance is running. It's an old server after all. I knew Australian users would be affected by it but I thought, since nobody mentioned it maybe we were lucky. But that has nothing to do with yesterday's problem - even when that happens, the server is still alive, just unresponsive to web requests (they time out before being served even though they're in the queue).

It's probably a good time to do that, during the week I'm at work anyway with the occasional Aussie or Kiwi paying a visit.
