Hi there.

I just can't seem to find the settings to turn off the weird/annoying black notifications that appear down the right-hand side of my browser when I come to the cpcwiki forums.

Is there a way to turn these off?
They're driving me nuts!

Thanks for any help.

Which Web Browser are you using cause I'm guessing it's a browser thing?  ??? I'm using IE8, though I've been though my account settings though it doesn't appear it can be disabled. I'm thinking the only way around it is if your always signed in.
* Using the old Amstrad Languages :D   * with the Firmware :P
* I also like to problem solve code in BASIC :)   * And type-in Type-Ins! :D

You really don't like these?

There's no per-user option, but if other users find them annoying I'll disable them altogether...

I'm afraid I don't... sorry dude.
:-[

If people prefer to have them, I can live with it.
Let's face it, it's not a matter of life or death.

But having to wait for them to scroll up and disappear before I can read the "Last post by" column on the main forum page is really annoying.

But please keep it if people like it the way it is.
If you've had no other complaints, best to leave it alone.
After all, the moment you turn them off, you'll get complaints!  :)

Incidentally, I just noticed the gold medal thingy under my username/profile info to the left of my forum posts (above my post count). What does it represent?

I get them in IE8 and in Firefox (4 and 5).

I'm always signed in as such, but I don't have the website open all the time.
(ie. I don't have to log in each time I visit, but I close my browser between sessions).

I assume these are the RSS Feeds spoken of earlier. I also find them rather annoying, because they block links on the right that you want to click on and keep reminding you about Posts that are 10 years old and ones I didn't want to read anyway.

Wasn't suggesting anything since it usually involves me loosing my head!  :-X

Theoretically if someone has a really widescreen monitor and high-res graphics then perhaps the notifications wouldn't be blocking those links?

The only "little black messages" I get are when someone replies to a thread I posted in, they disappear in a couple of seconds and I don't see anything wrong with them.

Bryce

They're the ones we are talking about, but after a while the list gets bigger and bigger (especially if you post a lot), then the list can take quite a while before it has scrolled down through all the messages and disappeared.

Bryce.

Xyphoe

I think if we can stop ALL of them appearing when you first come back onto the Wiki forums that would be great, notifications whilst logged in and viewing other topics is fine to tell you there's a new post there.

That might be a nice compromise.

steve

If you click on the message, will it take you to the unread messages in the relevant thread?, I've never tried it but it could be useful if it did.

Gryzor

...aaaand disabled. I've only left them on for personal messages.

ervin

You are a gentleman and a scholar.
Thank you kind sir.

Bryce

I miss them :D

Bryce.

Gryzor

@ervin: thank you kind sir, most compelled to please you.

@Bryce: argh... well, someone put up a poll and let me know the outcome!

Bryce

I was only joking!!!

ah ha, I've read that one before!! Should run up a useless poll just to establish how many times that line has been said!
