Hello guys!

A looong long time ago Kev had given me permission to include all the docs found on his site (http://www.cpctech.org.uk/) in the wiki. There's a wealth of knowledge there!

The problem is this: how should we handle all the diverse material? Where should we put it? Also, credit should go to Kevin in a clear enough way. Add a Kevin Thacker category perhaps? Something else?

Volunteers will also be needed to transcribe everything :)

Cheers

Hi Gryzor,

yes I remember, it's already some time ago :)

I think we can put a lot of this stuff...
here: http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Programming
and here: http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Technical_documentation

Regarding the credits, I would put a note at the top of each article, that this material came from Kevs archive. Don't know if a category makes sense, as these articels do not really belong together except the fact, that they came from the archive?

I can help out here. I will later have a look and post a list of articles, which I would transfer. So we can prevent, that two guys convert the same stuff.

Prodatron

**PS*********
I will make a small temporary page in the Wiki with the list of all articles in the archive. Everyone can add his name behind the articles he wants to transfer. If the transfer of one article is done, there is an extra mark. I think this is a good way to handle the transfer in a clearly way.

Ok, here is the list:

Really a lot of stuff!... :o To give an example, I marked the entries ("docs - emulation - file_formats ") wich I will tranfer during the next days.

Heya Prod,l I see you took the project and ran a bit with it :) Thanks so much!

The reason I suggested the extra category was to just give the man more credit. I know that, from an organizational point of view it doesn't make much sense.

Typically speaking, just a footnote giving credit to Kev would be enough, but I don't think it'd be fair. Maybe not create a category, but at least put a nice box at the top of every article so that it stands out a bit? :)

Yeah, generally speaking everything falls under either Programming or Technical Documentation, but let's try and keep the structure correct :)

I can't start converting right now - I have a rather big project going on in translating Directory Opus in Greek, but once I'm done I'll try and do as many articles as possible...

If we pull it off it'll be really good for the wiki, there's TONS of info there...

Gryzor

I just saw the first two pages :) Thanks!

Two notes: I've changed a bit the reference on top of the article, I think it looks better this way and it is more just for Kev.

Also, will these remain orphan (only link now is in the Archive page) or will you put them under something else eventually?

Cheers

Hi Gryzor,

sorry, currently I only invest time into the converting process.
We can make more thoughts about the credits and the linking independant of this. The most important part for me is currently the conversion.
As soon as we have a good concept, we can "paste" this into all existing Kev articles in one step. They won't get lost, as they all stay linked in the archive page.

No problem mate, I agree. I just made a quick&dirty little box :)

Which converter do you use anyway?

Keep it up :)

Gryzor

Two suggestions...

First, in case the original titles are a bit 'off', let's try and make them more meaningful. For instance, "Info for complete newbies" is neither 'correct' nor accurate enough, since the article is about "Transferring tapes to emulators".

Also, should we have a new, beginner's sub-category?

Gryzor

I just found two pages, probably both by CPCLER, that are not linked to in the Archive project's page:

http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Programming:CPC_Plus_Horizontal_scroll and
http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Programming:CPC_Plus_Vertical_scroll

There might be more... CPCLER, are those yours indeed? The initial creation is anonymous but subsequent edits are by you. We should add these to the Archive page and give you credit. Are there any more such pages?

Cheers
Gryzor

PS Oh boy. I also found: http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Programming:Dump_of_CPC_Plus_Cartridge , http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Programming:Display_a_8-bit_number_in_hex and several others... If you go to http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Special:Search?search=From+the+The+Unofficial+Amstrad+WWW+Resource&go=Go (since the credits header appears to be the same in each page) there are several pages... Why are these orphaned?
