Mediawiki installation updated to version 1.16.0 . A long-due upgrade, but it's been a very hectic life since last December for me, so I apologise.

As always, please report anything that might not work...

Good to know that the mediawiki version is updated! Unfortunatley, the GIF scaling still doesn't work, see the http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Image_Bug test page.

The strange thing is that the knife-drawing (at the bottom of the test page) works fine on wikipedia, but not on cpcwiki. The difference is shown in the screenshot attached to this message.

Btw. wikepedia does use exactly the same software as cpcwiki, doesn't it? If so, what else could go wrong? Different or older plug-ins? Configuration settings?

Would be really great if that bug would disappear! Today I uploaded some teletext/telesoftware screenshots on http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Teletext and the "black" background really doesn't look as intended in the thumbnail gallery :-(

Gryzor

Ho-hum... are these files new? Or are the ones uploaded when you found the problem?

And yes, we're using the same software, more or less. Wikipedia is using 1.16wmf4 (r70933) while we're using 1.16.0 (no team of developers you see...). I'll try to chase it up, thanks for letting me know...

Yes, the files on http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Teletext are new uploads (from 12 August 2010) (and they do look totally distorted).

The files on http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Image_Bug were old uploads - you mean the thumbnails were still cached somewhere? I just re-uploaded the "knife" picture. It is actually different than the old (same) file, the new gallery "icon" is totally WHITE, even worse than before :-)

There may be a small chance that cpcwiki just got confused on uploading the knife twice (ie. when I ignored the file with same content already exists warning). Anyways, the Teletex pages are real-new-fresh uploads.

Gryzor

Yes, the thumbnails are automatically generated upon upload and linked to the original file, so you're still looking at the old ones. I'm not sure if there's any sensible way to rectify this...

Yes, the fact that the black background has been switched to white is a bit unsightly but not a great deal, if you ask me. Still, the knife looks pretty bad...

I'd say white text on white background is very unsightly. The knife has at least some visible pixels.
Anyways, whichever looks worse - it's both the same problem.

> Yes, the thumbnails are automatically generated upon upload
Could be getting a problem, too. But before getting into that, the new uploads should be working (the 4 teletext pages were uploaded a few days after you updated the software).

It should be a known problem. From what I've found in the internet wikipedia did "fight" for many-many years with the GIF format.
Do you know somebody to ask why it works on wikipedia, but not on cpcwiki?
If yes, make it clear that we are using simple/normal gifs (not animated/transparent ones, which seem to be an even bigger problem).
