Gryzor

Hello guys,

Several people have asked me about this in the past, so:

Today I installed a modification that adds mention/tagging support in your posts. All you have to do is start typing @<user name> and a drop-down menu with the found usernames will appear. Choose one, and a link will be inserted to your post. What's more, the tagged user will be notified through PM.

(A small quirk: there's a small bug and for some users whose name begins with a small or a capital letter and you type the opposite, you have to use the drop down menu for the functionality to appear. But normally, you can just finish typing the user's name and all should be well).

You can see more details here: SMFPacks Mentions Pro .

Since this was the first mod release the dev is actively working on suggestions (already made some myself), so feel free to comment!

PS this cost us €7.5.

Hi @Gryzor ,

This is a nice feature indeed!

I'm currently out of home for a couple of weeks, with a Linux Mint Debian 16 laptop with Chromium, and I don't get the dropdown list.

Tell me if, at least, you get the pm.

Regards,
Rob

Gryzor

Hey @robcfg ,

Hm, I'm getting it on Chromium alright, we tested it quite a bit before announcing it, from different browsers and systems... but it did work as you can see and I did get the notification :)

So if @gryzor mentions @amsdos in the Moderators lounge, I won't be getting a PM, but if @CP/M User is used in there, then I might get a PM?  ;D

Well I didn't know if you have one or not, some forums come with Moderators area which allow for Admin & Other Moderators to Discuss anything relating to the Forum.

Yes there is, and the mod has the option to tell the tagger that the tagged member doesn't have access to that thread/board, but haven't tried it :)

Bryce

@Gryzor - If this thing starts being over used / abused and my inbox has 20+ notifications a day, you can turn it off again!

Bryce.

@Gryzor: Where is the drop down list? I don't get it on firefox.

Gryzor

Bryce: we're discussing about making this user-selectable, though this would complicate things: the drop-down menu would have to tell you the user doesn't accept tagging, for instance, stuff like that. But it's probably going to happen!

@arnoldemu : just inserted your username with the drop-down menu. FF 27.0 here. Are you sure about the capitalisation? Try "gryzor" instead of Gryzor maybe?

cpc4eva

congrats and well done for all the work you guys do  ;)

seems really expensive though E$7.5 ?

or is that cheap ?

Gryzor

Unfortunately, that's cheap. Mods are quite expensive, and I got it at half the normal price...

I see it now. When i use lowercase it appears with your picture.

Gryzor

Cool. There are two variations, from what I have seen, to a user's name: the name you log in with and the one that appears in the forum. Seems the mod doesn't like the latter. Some times. I think it's going to be fixed soon...

@gryzor - the Mention I posted earlier came up with the drop-down list (which I clicked on), but it doesn't appear on the forum, any idea what's happening there? Also I'm not sure about the one in this post, preview isn't showing your name as a link for it.

The posts with the Linked Mentions in them have a URL link - mine aren't showing that.

Yeah, that didn't happen. Don't know what to tell you mate, what browser are you using?

Mind you, at first it was a bit shaky for me too, but got smoothed out pretty quick. I think it's got to do with caching data or something.

Safari 5.1.10 with MacOS, but I don't know if it's that which would be causing the trouble.

I thought perhaps it's the editor settings I'm using which maybe what's occurring, I had to change this a while ago because something strange was happening with the font size which made it bad for other people to read.

Try changing it back maybe? Or try the full "reply" mode?

AMSDOS

@gryzor - I've enabled the "Show WYSIWYG editor on post page by default", but the Choose Quick Reply Type option seems to have disappeared.

It doesn't look as if it's changed the look of the user so it becomes a link, so it looks like an Browser thingy. LOL  ;D

Dev is working to iron out some bugs when the menu doesn't appear... so hold on :)

Gryzor

Hey guys, I just updated the mod. Now:

-it should work with more nicknames regardless of case or spaces.
-drop-down list appears after only two-three characters
-now works in the Quick Reply area, with our new editor (hope you like that one).
-New settings in a special profile section - you can now choose whether you get a PM, an email, both or none.
-now sending the post content along with the email!

Hope you like it.

@gryzor - not sure if this is still working and your post above isn't highlighting the link, is that correct?

It would have anything to do with me having a different onscreen name from my username?

Yeah, it's working alright, and as a matter of fact I just updated the mod to be able to use display names instead of usernames; so, for instance, in order for someone to mention you, since you have changed your handle from CP/M User to Amsdos, they don't need to use CP/M but rather @AMSDOS . Easier like that.

There's a bug with emails as you can see, they're being sent as text but containing HTML markup, this will be fixed.

Ok cause it still doesn't seem to be working for me, but I don't know if it's because I'm trying in @gryzor with Lowercase "g" or it needs to be uppercase "G", @Gryzor earlier I'm trying it at the beginning of the sentence and it seemed to be listing your name with Lowercase instead of uppercase. Now it seems to be working when entering the name in the sentence rather than at the start of a sentence.
