Well, been thinking about it for a while. Since the German subforum seems to be doing ok, do you guys think we should open more fora, possibly a Spanish and a French one?
Just talking off the top of my head here, I haven't even discussed it with anyone :)

On the first approach ,that seems to be a good idea. The main part allows to share with all in Engrish and a specific sub-forum would be cool , especially for users that do not understand english.

I don't think a Spanish sub-forum would see much use. There are already two discussion forums - the one that's hosted on Miarroba (I'm not sure if it has an official name!), and the Amstrad ESP forum - and both of them seem to be fairly active from what I can see.

Yes, I know there are other places out there. But, if it makes it easier or friendlier for people to start posting here, too, then it'd be all the better... For instance, you see German people posting in the German subforum, but also occasionally participating in the english dept as well...

It's not like I'm saying we'd be offering the only solution. Just a little something for other language users as well...

steve

If you do add other language fora, could you have separate recent posts lists for each since as only 10 recent posts are listed, it might only show one or two posts from the english forum.

robcfg

I don't think it will be that useful, because you lock users that do not speak certain languages from some interesting topics.

I am also not oppopsed to the german forum, but I'd rather stick to english so everybody can communicate.

Gryzor

Yeah, but the reasoning is that by bringing more people together, they'll also start posting in the english forum as well... as is already happening with the German one?

I'll add a poll...

MiguelSky

Bringing here the Spanish people would be hard job. Some time ago was discussed to unify users in a only Spanish forum and it was imposssible.

I think to create one forum more only will produce less contact.

Gryzor

Interesting... I'll take your word for it.

Such a pity, though!

You can always try as an experiment, and if there are not enough people who use these new sub-forums, you just remove them.

Maybe we should just try to link the "national" Forums a little better. Either by choosing "partner forums" that link back and forth to each other, somewhat like the "ring" system some sites use.

Another possibility might be that, say a spanish/french member here, who also uses the spanish/french forum, could inform us of interesting discussions/projects happening over there. Maybe a "What's happening elsewhere" Category in the Forum could be used to post these notices.

Adding more languages won't get the people to move over, they will still feel more comfortable at home, especially if their english isn't good.

Bryce.
