So, then we'd become "The Official CPCWiki"!

True, would be nice and not entirely impossible I would guess, unless it meant copyright passed over to them.

TFM

To ask them is for free ;)  Maybe they are amazed by the idea of a CPCWiki :)

Or they take a closer look at it and start telling us to delete things or pay a licence fee due to copyrights that they forgot they owned.

Bryce.

remax

Do you really want to lose control again about the hosting?

Nah, bad idea.

So we could no more say the obvious about Sir Sugar the penny reaper ? :laugh:
Oh, yeah, we would not more be able to litterally sh**t over the speccy, as it is also their property. >:(

Also Amstrad no longer (since a long time) own the "CPC" brandname/trademark...

But hey, this belongs to us, the people.

You're the only person here who says that! So they may just ask us to remove you :D

Then, who does own it?

Gryzor

Hahaha yeah, that'd be nice indeed... was "CPC" ever trademarked anyhow by Amstrad?

Remax is right though, we wouldn't want to relinquish control, would we? Unless we're talking about them giving us a nice cheque (and maybe a prototype or two to feature...) to cover the cost.

Xyphoe

I can help you with a VPS or Dedicated Server, and at a discount, seeing as I work for one of the largest hosting companies :)

How technical are you to effectively manage the server? Do you have Linux command line via SSH skills? Or will you need a good control panel to manage everything? (eg Plesk, cPanel, etc)

Bryce

@Xyphoe: Are those servers in the UK? Would it mean we would have to add ridiculous cookie opt-out warnings to the Wiki and Forum?

Bryce.

Gryzor

Oh, that sounds nice!
Current server is managed through SSH and sFTP exclusively (are control panels and CLI mutually exclusive?), so all's fine :) Can you give me some quotes, even by PM?

@Bryce, seriously??

Bryce

Click on any properly managed UK site, such as here: The Register: Sci/Tech News for the World    and look what pops up at the bottom of the page.

Gryzor

Whoops. This takes the UK off the table, I guess. But for how long, if others are to implement the same thing?

Damn... I think that CMSs should probably come up with a way to deal with it automatically (but, hell, if I install a new mod and it sets or modifies a cookie I must know it and declare it somehow? Tks... crazy stuff.)

This is the first time I've heard anything about this.  :o  So what does that article mean for this site?
* Using the old Amstrad Languages :D * And create my own ;)
* Incorporating the Firmware :P
* I also like to problem solve code in BASIC :)   * And type-in Type-Ins! :D

That's funny because when you click on the close button,  the data is stored in a... cookie  :D

For the time being, nothing. If they expand the law to all the EU countries, let's cross fingers extensions will be developed for the wiki and the forum to incorporate such functionality...
