I very rarely use TT, but there are hundreds of sessions each month coming from TT so obviously several people find it useful. What's more having our site indexed through TT gives it a SEO boost. But of course if it's fatal in terms of security it should also be considered...

I'll follow those threads and even open a relevant one on the TT forum.

I hadn't seen this and was confused when cpcwiki was down this morning. Glad the move's all gone well.

BTW, for a while there I got an html directory listing with folders for a bunch of different sites, including cpcwiki. There were also a bunch of photos of some guitars and stuff... :D your band @Gryzor?

Also, if you like CPCWiki, help support it with a donation! http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/treasury/

Oh my! Can't imagine life without Tapatalk. Hope those rumours won't disencourage the Powers That Be :P
I'm doing almost all computing via my SmartPhone, even serious business tasks. D*mn! :)

Lucky you!  :)

@Munchausen : we didn't have the time to organise it more carefully, it was done in a rush; but we did send out an email blast warning about it to all members, didn't you get it? (and yes, there are a couple of personal projects from older times also held on the same server).

@pelrun : cheers mate :)

Right now our yearly costs amount to €54,17x12=€650/yr for the hosting, plus another €100 or so for the backup server plus about €10 for the domain name, so around €760 in all, or €64/month. So every little helps :)

Oh yeah - it was in my junk mail folder. I've marked it as "not spam", hopefully future messages from cpcwiki will get through. Now I wonder how many I've missed over the years?

I will try to donate when I am a bit more fiscally sound myself. As I see it this wiki and forum are the center of the CPC community (at least for the english speaking world), it would be a real disaster if something were to happen to it (and I am glad to hear you have a backup server). Does the wiki get mirrored to archive.org or is that disabled? It might be a good idea for longevity.

Gryzor

Hmmm, Spam, eh? That's definitely not good and I wonder why... strange!

But I've only sent another one through MailChimp and a couple through the system's service, so you haven't missed much :D

Ah, I didn't ever think of adding it to archive.org . I just did, I wonder how much of it it'll save...

The backup server is just that, a server on a dedicated service pulling a mirror of the filesystem on a daily basis, which is of course very useful.

There seems to be a small group of people who mark emails as spam instead of unsubscribing from mailing lists, etc. These people cause false positives for spam filters that take into account how users mark emails. :(

I can't really tell if that's the problem. but this specific mailing was sent by Mailchimp and the service is used to send spam. Of course they try really hard for that to not happen, but bulk mailing is their business so... yeah.
Released The Return of Traxtor, Golden Tail, Magica, The Dawn of Kernel, Kitsune`s Curse, Brick Rick, Hyperdrive and The Heart of Salamanderland for the CPC.

If you like my games and want to show some appreciation, you can always buy me a coffee.

@Gryzor: Do you know what currency conversion rates paypal uses?

I ask because I just donated in £, but the equivalent in Euro is not what I expected.

Also, the treasury page lists a different amount to the one you mentioned in your post. Should the page show the actual amount?

Thanks :)

TotO

Before sending your money, the rate was printed on the summary page. It is generaly around 5%.
It is why, I prefert to not use their system and pay with the country curency, because my bank fees are less. (it is a paypal setting)

TotO

Sure, because after aplying the rate, paypal took its margin...

It seems the donations page doesn't show accurate euros for non-euro donations.

The difference between by expected donation and the reported donation in that page is more than 5% and the difference is more than the expected commission taken by the bank.
I think the page is not accurate :(

I am really happy I donated :)

That's true. I'm always using USD but it shows EUR

@Zoe Robinson , @reidrac : indeed, people marking legitimate emails as spam in Gmail is a Gmail spam factor. But Mailchimp ranks very high in terms of trustworthiness... well, I guess it didn't help I made a typo in the subject (ooops! Was writing that early in the morning :D )

@arnoldemu , @TotO : indeed the donations page was never too accurate with conversions. I might take a look but as long as the amount listed are in the region of the amounts donated I don't mind - I have it there for transparency's sake.

Everyone: in the last days we received €134, two and a half months' worth of hosting. Thank you so much, everyone! Even the smallest amount helps, and really, it makes me so appreciative and happy every time a donation comes in because it proves people really care about our little community :)

I have quite  backlog of emails, but in the next few days I'll contact each and everyone of you who donated, as I always do.

Thanks again, guys...

@Gryzor Was just wondering when the Wiki would be available for editing again?

Smooth migration, many thanks to everyone involved!  :)

2 little observations just because I kept noticing these:

"Log in" to the main CPCWiki.eu isn't an SSO to the forum as well:
When trying to reply to a thread, unlike in most other forums, forum "Login" takes the user back to the http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php (rather than remain within the currently read thread) -
which itself is also surprisingly hidden on the main page under:
Wiki-related
    ...
    Discussion forum

Might deserve a more prominent place there IMHO (possibly with some of the most Recent Forum Topics too)...  ::)

Of course I realize the current level of interaction might be due to Wiki & forum being driven by 2 different pieces of software.

Yeah, as you said it's two different systems, so... I had tried doing some sort of hack integration between the two and it kind of worked, but it broke other things during testing, so I didn't pursue it... if I manage to find an official solution (rather unlikely) this is the way it will stay, unfortunately.

Just my 2 (Euro)cents really: Recent Forum Topics as on the very active (after all those years decades  :) ) CPCWiki forum - Index appearing above/alongside the main page's CPC Related News as well would be more indicative of "the heat of the action", and certainly more conspicuous than "Wiki-related ... Discussion forum" or screenshot style in...

Not readable in Lynx (or on a CPC) BTW. ;D

Hm, you mean pull the data from the forum "recent posts" and post it on the Wiki. A really great idea, but I'm afraid I don't know how to implement it :( Anyone has some idea??

Yeah, it's a bit of PHP code to do it. It's certainly do-able:

You'll need to embed the code into a MediaWiki page. This is also do-able:

I just have a link pointing back to the attachment, it was working while I was a Guest or Signed in, don't see why those files should go onto the Wiki.
