Good Morning Everyone

A quick intro about myself.

TBH I am in the main a C64 Junkie  :o but have some tempting from other forum buddies on Amibay I took a punt on a 6128 which I have had hot rodded with Parados and 3.5 Inch Disk Drive  8)

I must admit since it arrived on Wednesday I have had so much fun, esp. finding out how many games you can get on a floppy (seven is my record so far  ;D )

Need to work out how to program the 6128 to come up with some kind of menu program so I do not have to Cat every time before I load a game.

I hope that not everyone will hold my C64 alliegence against me and help me through my first steps into Sir Alan Sugar Land  ;)

welcome Paradroid 90  ;D

you will love your 6128 im sure of it !

you will get lots of help just ask away.....

not sure if there is such a menu program so that u dont have to cat before loading..... ? ? ?

did u get a cpc 6128 with switches for your 3.5" drive to switch between sides ?

anything else you can tell us about your 6128 you have got ?

paradroid90

Hi and thanks for the reply

No I never got a ABBA switch fitted and tbh I dont really need it at the moment  :)

Before it had the upgrades it was a 6128 which had no 3 inch disk drive and faulty membrane  :(

Few hacks later (Not by myself by the way) I have an operational 6128 with 3.5 inch drive with an operating system which allow you to place 400k worth of data on one disk  8)

Had a few spare disks which will not full work on my STe but work great for the Amstrad.

I must admit I have scoured the Internet for a menu program or will need to learn some basic to create the boot loader.

I will get around to it  :D

Sure, peoples known that I don't like hack... But, when that look clean I'm permissive.
Probably, you can use a slim drive for getting A and B floppy fitting into the floppy hole.

Thanks for the feedback Tot0

I might have to send the link to my hack guru to see if it is possible on my 6128  :)

Thanks for the link

Also is there any good basic programming books out there to help with my disc menu project

Thanks in Advance

Hi Paradroid90,

paradroid90

Hi Bryce, hope your well and I would know avatar anywhere  ;)

As you can see I am having some fun with the 6128 a certain chappy sorted for me on Amibay......Just need to sort my disc menus for the 3.5 inch floppies I have created  :)

TheCorfiot (I assume he fixed it up for you) is a member here too :)

Bryce.

paradroid90

Yes it was The Corfiot who worked his magic  :D

Got no other projects to pester him with at the moment until I get the funds for an IDE interface for my STe  :D

Hi Paradroid! Welcome to the forum!

As much as we like to joke about the Spectrum and the C64, most of us have all three machines, and there's a lot of interesting developments for all of them.

paradroid90

Thanks Robcfg

I had a c64c and a spectrum when I was younger then moved on to the Amiga when I started work  :)

The major change I have seen is the colours on the Amstrad. I must they are very vivid on an 8 bit machine, but some were too bright  :o , but and it was great to find out that Deathchase, Formula 1 and Rebelstar had been converted to Amstrad which I never knew before ( If someone could do Jet Pac I would be in heaven  ;) )

It is great to see some great software releases on all machines recently and some fantastic hardware releases also. My favourite is still the 1541 Ultimate no c64 junkie should be without one  ;D

There is a list of books here Books - CPCWiki

TFM

Hi and Welcome!  :)

Always nice to meet C64 users who appreciate the CPC too.  ;)

Thanks for the replies everyone and the link for the books Steve  :)

And yes TFM I think that the days of the school playground have long gone ( in more ways than one  )

I can appreciate all 8 bit and 16 bit machines but 64 does hold special place in my heart  :)

Welcome. I notice the first thing you mentioned is the C64 and then once more at the end... Are you feeling guilty? Don't worry after 30 years in a relationship its natural to look around for a slightly younger 8 bit model and the more vibrant colour pallet is a real head turner ;)

I'd definitely look at Batman the movie, chase HQ, RoboCop, and isometric games like head over heels, Batman and Get Dexter. Probably best to avoid Wizball after playing the C64 version... :)

paradroid90

Must admit I did prefer the CPC version of Robocop, but must admit I was slighty disappointed with the CPC version of Chase HQ. Dont get me wrong against the 64 version it is light years apart  ;) , but I was expecting more  :)

Since transferring the images I have been playing Match Day II, Star Sabre, R Type 128k, Empire Strikes Back, Donkey Kong (I was really impressed and surprised by the Ocean Version), Gryzor, and Pinball Magic  :D

The good thing about comparing systems is you appreciate their strengths and weaknesses.

Thanks for all the feedback

TotO

Yes, Donkey Kong is very impressing.
Some GFx should have been more arcade accurate, but nothing to said. It's a great an funny port that I discovered 25 years ago.
And my reaction was: "It's not my CPC... Something goes wrong!" :D

paradroid90

Like I said previously I was happy there was a few speccy ports  :o

Finding Rebelstar, Formula One and 3D Deathchase was an added bonus oh and Glider Rider for the AY tune  :)

TFM

Yep, Glider Rider has amazing music.  ;)

Gryzor

A bit late to the party, but welcome mate! I think by now you've seen no one is holding your dirty past against you. Everyone is interested in a balanced discussion, actually, so I hope you stick around :) Try the game releases from the last few years (you can find them on the wiki itself)!

Now, I must watch Batman Forever again...

paradroid90

Hi Gryzor, Thanks for the Welcome, and I hope I do not cause too much trouble  ;D

As I have explained the C64 is my first love, but I have many more 8 bits in my collection I like to use for different games and demos

Atari 800xl with SIDE2 and Ultimate 1MB and dual pokey - Some great Arcade Conversions and up to date Demos like Control and Numen  :)
BBC Micro B (TC Hot Rodded with 32k sideways ram) with MMC - Some great shoot em ups and the only way to play Elite  :)
Commodore Vic 20 16k Ram Pack - Some great classics from my youth, Jet Pac, Gorf or Omega Race anyone  ;)

I even have a Plus 4 which is a machine that I always come back to as I always love the underdog  :D .

And of course the 6128 C64 and C128 so I hope I have all bases covered  ;)

So I make sure I have an 8 bit machine to suit my mood  8)

Bryce

What? No Spectrums?? :D

Bryce.

Gryzor

It's obvious he's a man of quality.

paradroid90

Had enough of Speccy's in my teenage years Bryce  ;)

To be fair the Amstrad killed that one off  :D

Rebelstar - Check, Turbo Esprit - Check, Formula One - Check, Glider Rider with the Fantastic AY sound track - Check, 3D Deathchase - Check now if someone could do a Jet Pac, PSSST and Viking Raiders (Don't Ask  ) conversion then any need for a Speccy is null and void  8)

Thank you for your kind words Gryzor, but I am now 41  :o and I am just pragmatic and love all 8 bit machines, only a die hard fan would not admit that Uridium is so much better on the C64 or that Renegade is much better on the Amstrad.

Also I can marvel at the fantastic demos on all of the machines - Robotic Liberaration on the humble Vic to Batman Forever on the Amstrad, Numen on the Atari 8 Bit or Comalight on the C64.

Ill get off my soapbox now  ;)
