Now, seriously guys, was all this necessary? A totally fine OP that degenerated into this? I understand we play loose with topics around here, but this is way too much. If you want to have fun so off topic, why don't you take it elsewhere, PMs even? Seriously. There *is* such a thing as too much, especially when swooping down on a new member's thread and totally wreck it.

@TrainingForUtopia , please accept my apologies. I'm going to clean this thread now, and hope you get to find what you're looking for.

Gryzor

....aaand he's gone. Thanks guys, well done.

Devilmarkus

I PMed him, but had no time yet to ship it.
(Sometimes I am very busy, too)
But I did not forget him.

If he wants his account being deleted, just because 1 topic, and no "quick" reaction:

Yeah, well, I think it was a bit over the top as a reaction, but it was his right.

Devilmarkus

Next time I will fold the keyboard membrane in the middle and ship as usual letter

Sorry Gryzor, but I'm with Markus and others on this one. If he's made of sugar, then he should leave the internet, not just the forum. The posts may have been off topic, but there was nothing negative or harrassing there. He needs to be less sensitive.

Bryce.

Gryzor

No need to be sorry, I mean I understand where you're coming from and we all have our opinions. And you know I value your opinion most.

As I said, yes, I think his reaction was a bit too much. But this doesn't mean what happened was much better. Even by our fast and loose standards some of the posts here were far too silly. Sometimes I think the old days of pen and paper were better because it was harder to actually write whatever popped into your mind.

I've seen it before and have tried to clean things up a bit, where a new user will ask something and the rest of us will descend in a surreal world full of inside jokes or pub experiences. It's not nice at all. Just imagine going into an organised group of people in real life, asking a question and then watching everyone shutting you off and laughing their asses off with their own jokes.

So, even if this user's reaction was a bit too much, I tend not to care and instead look inwards and see where we failed him. I think we should be a little tighter -in general. Obviously, letting ourselves loose has, is and will be resulting in some abuse, so let's try and curb it.

Bryce

Well here's a quick summary of his Forum activity:

1 - Never introduced himself.
2 - Only posted two questions.
3 - Never conversed otherwise.
4 - On his first question he already got confrontational and smart-arsed with TotO. Called steve weird and told him he was added to his ignore list. All for absolutely know reason.

I have absolutely no problem that he deleted his account. He's not the type of person we'd want here anyway. He obviously mistook the community for a helpdesk.

Well, true as that might be, and I don't disagree, it doesn't really excuse this thread here. We could have scolded him or we could have tried to ease him into our community - or ignore them altogether. But trashing a thread of his - not the way to go.

I've read through the posts you removed and I don't think the thread was thrashed. There was some light-hearted banter and Carnivac even tried his best German to make him feel welcome. And all this happened AFTER Markus had already offered to help him out with getting a membrane. However, his thread about the tape belt had already said enough as far as I'm concerned. Even you expressed your astonishment there about how quickly the member escallated the tone there.

That was what I was going for.  Just being friendly and trying to reach out to non-english speaking people because the CPC community is quite fragmented across the world.  If that person misunderstood or took any it badly then I don't know why.  If I'd deliberately insulted them then ok but I can't see how I could have.   Maybe my German is just that bad.  I did get a F in the GCSE when I did it 20 years ago.  :(

Maybe I did it wrong.  I fail most of the time even in english speaking social interaction so why would I think my poor german would do any better?

Nah, the thread was thrashed. Even the 'help' provided was in a wtf way, and what can be light-hearted for us (and I don't think Carnivac would set upon insulting someone anyhow) can be strange to downright intimidating for others. As I said: if it was just this once, fine. But it's not about this particular member, like him or not. It's a more general thing.

Markus PMed him, correct?

Devilmarkus

Yeah I PMed him, and also told him, that I am very busy ATM.
This was @ oct, 17. and the following days...
Seriously I had no time yet to ship the fu**ing membrane...
But I told him... So all he needed was a bit patience...

Well, there are obvious things and hidden things. He send me a PM about the EgoTrip problem. Guess there was some additional 'being pissed off' factor.

However, if a member decides to leave then this is his good right.

Giving him shit for that is way under the belt line[nb]If you don't get it, ask Markus, he's good in explaining  :) [/nb] and a sign of a total lack of honor. So I hope we are not going there.

Well, IMHO this topic can be closed and deleted....
Is there still any need in this?

Not really, it's still useful for the discussion; we can just move it...

Devilmarkus

Perhaps you can restore the deleted replies, too?
I also cannot find something really offending there...
