CPCAI scans lost on the new server -- does anyone have backups?

Hi all!

It looks like the CPCAI scans that used to be hosted at http://mags.cpcwiki.eu/ have unfortunately not survived the Wiki's server move.

Does anyone have a (complete or partial) backup of those files and would be willing to upload the archives to the Wiki?

Thanks!
Martin

Morn,

I have 4 files (CPCAI-92-02.zip, CPCAI-92-02.zip, CPCAI-92-06.zip and CPCAI-92-08.zip).
Each is 35Mb is size, so i would be prepared to either email/upload them.

I am sure, Gryzor made a complete backup, before he moved the Wiki...
He just forgot to setup the subdomain mags.cpcwiki.eu and to upload the stuff here.

You forgot to add  :D :D :D :D to that, Markus...

Gryzor PM'ed me that he "canned" these subdomains because "nobody seemed to care about these side-projects"! What a sweet and caring person he is.

Awww poor guy, didn't mommy hug you enough last night? Are you looking for sweetness and caring in all the wrong places?

For chrissakes. What got up your nose?

Yes, nobody cared. Seven months now, noone even asked for them. So it was the right move. If enough people make a move and say "we want this or that feature/minisite/whatever" I'll gladly accommodate. Till then, I'm not really gonna take insults from the one person who remembered something half a year down the road. Not to mention that you are publishing what someone told you in private.

...

That said, unless the CPCAI issues are recovered it'd be nice to find them somewhere, I'd really like to have them (both personally and for the wiki). So if anyone does have the collection, PM me and we can arrange some easy way to do it.

Cheers
G

Morn

Gryzor,

you have simply been telling bold-faced lies such as that nobody cared about those files, and I'm calling you out for that publicly because I don't tolerate people lying to me. (You obviously overlooked that the files had download counters, proving you wrong!) An apology would be in order for losing everyone's work, but instead I only hear lies from you.

And there's no way to simply "retrieve" these files from some other web site because they were original scans.

Gryzor, you should really be glad that Markus was gentlemanly enough not to disclose to the forum the whole extent of your behavior during the sad Kanga Musique Wiki affair or your reputation would now be in the same dumpster where the CPCAI scans are. That was far nicer of Markus than you deserve IMO.

Judging by the choice of words in your own account you have given me, the deletion of these files does not come across as accidental at all but as a spiteful act because this was a project started by Markus. Condemned by your own words.

Hugs and kisses,
Martin

Gryzor

Boy, you really got some issues, making such a fuss all of a sudden...

-"Bold-faced lies"? Whoa man, have a sense of proportion. It wasn't a lie, it was an estimation of the situation. Yes, there were counters - what was the count? Perhaps the downloads were from when the files were upped? After all, if lots of people were/are interested, there are bound to be lots of people who actually have them, so it'll be no trouble getting them back. After all, from what I see, visits to the CPCAI page have been very, very few and far between this year... So yes, my assessment stays.

But even if I was wrong, if gazillions of users were interested, I'm not really sure why and how you would call that a "bold-faced lie". Feeling over the top today?

-Er, so because they were "original" scans it means nobody else have them? Maybe they have "copies" of the "originals" :D

-It's really shameful to out someone for what he may have said in private conversations. You obviously have a lot to learn about human interaction. Whatever Markus may have said to you you have no right to call him out like that. That said, please, do present any arguments for my "behavior", this will be fun to watch :D As for my reputation, 35GBs of data speak for themselves.

-Dear lord, there really must be something in the water where you live... "condemned by my own words" :D :D :D I said these were Markus' projects, but I also said that backups were taken. Where you got from that to the "spiteful act because this was a project started by Markus" ( ??? wtf???!!!) is anyone's guess.

Chill. Take a pill or something.

I do not understand what you are discussing. Have there been other magazines than the ones that can be found here

There used to be a subdomain, mags.cpcwiki.eu . It had some magazines that were/are available elsewhere too (they're now all up in this forum), but there was also CPCAI which is not available anywhere else.

During the latest move these scans appear to have been lost; that's what this is about...

I think we've just solved the energy problem. With heated discussions like this, we have a dirt cheap solution. :D

I think we should try to conserve as much Amstrad and CPC related as possible. Without knowing the magazine in question, it may still be of historical value or interest to us. Many of us haven't discovered CPCAI yet

Devilmarkus

Because the archive was CPCAI only related, I uploaded it here now:

Have fun!

@ivarf: you're more than right in that. I don't think one should really rate things to preserve, and I really wanted this too.
@Markus: fantastic. The disks were on the wiki, but it's superb to have the mags again...

Gryzor

Wtf... this is really funny. Last night I downloaded all the files from Markus' server.

I just did a final attempt to recover the files from our own backups (the penny dropped, one could say...) and they're still here. Dear god...

Of course some will say I downloaded them from markus and put them back online on the wiki, but I actually found all the subdomains tucked away from the main directory I kept a local backup of. So now you can actually access:
DIRECTORY
Webspace - Domain - Webhosting (not sure what was supposed to go here)
http://www.cpcwiki.eu/subdomains/blog/httpdocs/ (must reimport the db before it works)
Webspace - Domain - Webhosting (same as with emulators)
http://www.cpcwiki.eu/subdomains/people/httpdocs/home.php (same as with blog, there's a big tar in there I haven't taken a look at, yet).

The mags section is a simple nice download script, and you can still see the old counters.

How this shitstorm could have been prevented if people didn't go off like that... I guess now some will say I was holding them back for some reason (I hate Markus, I did it on purpose, this, that, the other...), but nevermind.

I will actually take down the files from the Mags section and reup them in the Downloads section.

Sorry, I don't. You'll have to try harder than that :D

Yes, it's nice, shame about the furore. However, am I wrong or was there only the CPCAI issues in the mags subdomain? There doesn't seem to be anything else in the folder?

Devilmarkus

there had only been CPCAI mags inside...
But perhaps you want to upload other mags, too?

Well, all the others are already here...

I'm glad those didn't get lost, and also I'd like to say that just asking nicely for them would have spent much trouble.
