what is the trick behind the new resolution displayed in onescreen colonies 2 by vanity? i guess you should know this now famous demo! did somebody understand how it is made?

upper screen is regular mode 0 with a mode 1 shift between odd/even lines
lower screen is regular mode 2 with split-rasters and dithering to fake colors

how do they do the mode 1 shift?
