Just watched it, really really enjoyed it! Lovely effects, fantastic use of colour, an trully lovely music (farting notwithstunding). Thanks, it gave me a great ten-minute enjoyment... still have the ending tune in my mind :) Oh, and some great fonts, too!!!

Now let's watch the Nyan bashing...

If you want to think that hard envelope instruments sound like farts, then anytime you hear one it will sound like a fart to you

MacDeath

QuoteWell, let's face it, the bass line does sound a bit... scatological
perhaps due to bad render by emulator.

Gryzor

@McKlain: well, you're right, of course :D

Then there's this:

The Brown Noise

@MacDeath: Hm, yes, I wondered about that too. I will try it on my CPC...

I know that Nyancat has a lot of fans in this forum, but you know that we hate it! So, we decided to burn it in a small 4k!

Feel free to let us know your opinion!

For a 4 KB demos this is really very good stuff. Now you guys have stopped insulting ;-) and started to make really very well stuff. Congrats - You're on the right path :-D

Not bad at all.

Intro :
got screwed by AtariVCS and Amiga... you can't argue with Amiga nor shitty old 2nd generation consoles... but still managed to defeat C64 and Speccy.

Demo :
Ok, Amiga first...

Boogietown by Ghostown & RNO

they let Amiga compete with 8bits ? they really need that to win with old Amiga ?
I mean, ok Atari ST is not well represented but...

As I already told somewhere, the C64 demo is well done.

krawall deluxe

more graphics content, and some 3d effects... nothing original (I thing I already have seen all stuff from this demo) but well done.

benediction & Sector One - Wake Up!

On the other hand, the Plasmas art first minute in wakeup looked a bit naked IMO, no frame, no sprites nor text nor whatever else...

Also the scrollzooming text at 1:28 is not in horizontal fullscreen.
ok there are already 3 zones, one of them being in fullscreen, but the text should be too or else it doesn't produce the real effect.

the last "waking up naked chick" is not bad, but too dithered to my tastes... but it must look better on a real CRT screen I guess.

Also the screen with fish sprites from the C64 demo is the kind of stuff that miss a bit IMO in this Amstrad Demo...
Good old game-like sprite demonstration.
Yeah we know the C64 is cheap trick on this due to Hardsprites...

But I think a good Winning demo should have something like this, not only "text sprites".
More animated "anime" stuff.

And appart from the scrolltext (zooming of course) there is no real try at horizontal scrolling stuff.

even the simple intro with the "Ready" part in the C64 demo gives quite some diversity in the matter.

So, Wake-up is good, has interesting contents and sweet graphics, but lacks a bit in the global composition or on the small details that could make the difference between a 2nd and a 3rd place.

Anyway, did you win something by being at 3rd place ?

TFM

That Amiga demo is poor, could be done better on CPC. And parts already have been done better on CPC  :D

Yeah, I know, but... fancy Amiga... it even killed Jack Tramiel ... they show no respect...

I mean...
twice the resolution for twice the number of colours... (320x200x32 compared to 160x200x16... not even talking about palette)... and they manage to make an "average" demo.

Perhaps we should go the PLUS way to beat them with more ease.

Or even get some demo in Assembly language on Amstrad PC1640 (EGA, no sound card, final destination !!!)...

(I believe) Factor6 asked about the PLUS machine(s) during Krusty's Amstard seminar, however it appeared that he didn't have a pre-prepared response.

Not quite, Factor6 (on the left side) asked about he different CRTC versions. The other question - I think - came from the middle to right side.

Poor demo scene... Nothing original, always boring scroll text, tunnels and plasma...
Please, wake-up all !!!

Ah! Ok! I wasn't entirely sure. The sound was a little quiet for some reason during that second seminar session...

@MacDeath: When they announced the winners, krusty went on stage. I think he received something, but the light and camera was too bad too look at them. Most probably it's a figurine of some sort.

If it's bronze, we could cast it in a fire and forge the swords for next year's party. Bronze beats gold and silver easily. ;)

Anyway, easier to critisize, harder to release something.
They released a quite good CPC production, could have been better on details and variety, but still, 3rd place and still being above some C64 and Speccy is still great.

Funny thing is... I looked at the Amiga demo and yes, it could have been almost done on a CPC.
the rotating buildings effect was done betterly in the Batman Demo.
Some "character pixels" effects are even do-able on speccy or in mode1 CPC...

And so on.

the main difference is that the plasmas also have some graphics around and above them... while WakeUp just displayed them with nothing else...

but the Amiga Demo had sweet well refined graphics anyway.

Funny or tragically, no Atari ST productions ?

Does any of you have a capture of the demo playing live on the party, like this one?
I wonder how it sounded with that big sound system  ;D
An official video for each demo is supposed to be released shortly after the demoparty, according to the organizers. In any case, I can send you the videos I shot, but don't know if you will be happy with my sound recording ;) But, if you wanna my impression, your music rocked man! ;)

Nyan cats have seven lives (as some old rituals say), and we burnt them all at once ;)

We were never tried to insult anyone, just Wake up (coincidence? ;) ) every CPC user! Even after half a year of some sort of misinterpretation with our messages in Bloc Us!, we finally hope that it is clear what we initially aimed for with that release! Thank you for your words.

I've seen already the compo videos (not the individual ones), but when the demo starts the ambient sound is silenced. Do you think that you can upload your videos to youtube?

And thanks  ;D

Of course I can. I will do it today, right after finishing work. As for the ambient sound (and if I can recall correctly), you are right.

he told me he don't even know what the PLUS features are... but he have one though.

next time you should burn some My Little Pony...
Celestia (trollestia actually) deserves it well...

Sceners are unanimous on their love for NyanCat... but the war still rage between bronies and haters... it may be helpfull.

I've just spent the last hour or so looking for the perfect image, but I can't find it any more! However, the Gods of Synchronicity have pointed me to my very own Pony Picture Collection folder and here it is!

Little Miss Derpy Hooves;

EDIT: No-one has mentioned the CATart on Wake Up! yet! It seems to work 99.9% on both CPC464 and CPC6128 and even works on all MODEs! I have one question, though; why is Transparent Mode activated? I can't find anything overlapping on the ASCII art, so it seems strange activating it!

Hi,

next Benediction's prod will be named: Stop That Pony Too! :)
