Hi there. 40 year old gamer here. I've been setting up Amstrad CPC Emulation on my PC using Capice32, but am having trouble combining / merging multiple .dsk files for the same game. Like A320 (Europe) (Disk 1 of 2).dsk and A320 (Europe) (Disk 2 of 2).dsk

I found a really old thread on here from many years ago, but am having issues following it (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/applications/merge-two-dsk-files-into-double-sided-one/)

I've heard that Caprice32 has support for .m3u playlists, but I don't wont to go down this route just yet.

1) I've used JavaCPC, which will allow me to merge certain Amstrad .dsk files, but once combined, they will not open in Caprice32. Instead of it entering the "RUN"GAME NAME" to launch it, as it does with the single files, Caprice32 just auto enters "CAT". Is there a way to combine the files and have them launch as the individual files do?

2 ) I've found the Amstrad CPC Disk Image Utility "pcxti14" by Pierre Guerrier ( http://www.genesis8bit.fr/frontend/emu-uti.php ), but can't get things working. I can successfully run the Utility, through DOSBox, it shows what I need to type "XTI.exe -merge game-1.dsk game-2.dsk", but it will not merge the files. Am I doing this right?

Any help would be gratefully received.

Many thanks,

Ben

I don't know about JavaCPC/Caprice32, but with XTI you can only "merge" images that are in EDSK format allready.

So before merging them, you have to convert them from DSK to EDSK, like XTI -EDSK TEST.DSK

Hope I remember this correct, last time I used this is LONG time ago  :D

Thank you. Out of all of the places I've asked this, you are the only one to respond. I will be looking into this later. Ta

Okay, so I was able to use "xti.exe -edsk GAME.dsk" to convert some of my .dsk games, but the new file is a .ddk or something.

Between PCXTI and JavaCPC i've manged to merge and convert some files. But it seems random as to what works and what doesn't.

I did manage to merge 2 .dsk and the resulting file will play, but it will not auto launch through the WinApe core in Retroarch as all other .dsk files do. I have to manually enter "RUN"GAME." in the BASIC front end for it to load. The individual files that made the merge will autoload, but not the merged file (even though it works) Any ideas?

There are several different ways that games can be started on CPC, so no one-klick-Solution here

WinAPE got some command line options for this :

Well, one can throw (by drag and drop) an SNA to JavaCPC (and few others I guess).
