Title: linux and bsd testers wanted
Post by: arnoldemu on 07:40, 21 December 15
I am trying to prepare a release of arnold emulator for Christmas or new year.

I need help with:
- testing
- build instructions (describing the command-line to download, install and make arnold on your flavour of linux or bsd)
- scripts that will make a package (.deb etc)
- scripts that will integrate it with the gui including configuring file associations, icons, menus etc. I have bits and pieces for ubuntu in there.

I am using Ubuntu 15.10 64-bit with Unity. I have also built it on 32-bit Ubuntu with XFCE window manager.

I need some help to make sure the gui works well on other window managers and other versions of linux and bsd.

I am interested in bugs with fonts, layout, colours, not being able to close windows, drag and drop not working that kind of thing.

You will need to build the code yourself. (Arnold uses sdl, wxwidgets and cmake).

If you can help please send me a pm.

Thank you!

I am considering a UbuntuMate 15.10 ppc install on my old powermac g5, any possible chance it will compile on the ppc beast?

If so, then I'm in ;)

I usually have a Linux Mint installation at hand, and would like to know why it can be so troublesome to compile on OSX...

So, count me in ;)

I'm happy to help!

I run Debian Jessie, but I can run chroots for Ubuntu LTS. I also have experience with Debian packaging.

I can help too, however my my personal configuration is quite close to yours (ubuntu/unity).
However, at work I can test on debian/gnome

Could it also be compiled on an ARM / RaspberyPI architecture?

I did compile it on raspberry pi a few months ago. I can't say if it will compile now or not.
It will be slow on a raspberry pi.

Which is something that bugs me a lot, because I've been surfing the web on a 48Mhz Acorn A7000+, and the Pi is a 700Mhz mhz modern core with a decent graphics card. Why in hell is it so slow?

i haven't tried to optimise it for raspberry pi. ;)

I have Ubuntu 10.04 if you want to test it on old-ass systems :)

I also have a more up to date Arch Linux running in a VM.

The rant wasn't about your emulator, I feel Raspbian makes the Pi move too slow when it's kind of a decent machine. RiscOS performs much better.

Enough for today  :D
