PSP Go?
« on: 11:45, 29 March 18 »
Hello guys!

Was thinking about getting a PSP Go as a portable emulation machine... anyone's got one they've played with?

Not a Go,
But I do use an original fat PSP for Amstrad and occasional SNES emulation.

Buttons are fine but the thumb stick will let you down and the d pad buttons are too far from each other so you're screwed if you need to move diagonally.

Currently playing on: 2xCPC464, 1xCPC6128, 1x464Plus, 1x6128Plus, 2xGX4000. M4 board, ZMem 1MB and still forever playing Bruce Lee.
No cheats, snapshots or emulation. I play my games as they're intended to be played. What about you?

I do have an original PSP (one from the very first batches to reach Europe) with a Pandora battery. It was an awesome machine but I like the form factor of the Go, hence the question.

From what I understand, the firmware is identical for all machines so it would work in theory. I think the only thing that changed was the installation of the jailbreak.

So performance wise, should be the same. Your mileage might vary with the amount of space you have on the device. (Can't remember if the PSP's accept MS Pro duo)

It accepts those mini sticks or something, good enough for emulation purposes. Got to check how to jailbreak it, I've heard it's easy to do.

Anybody's got one to sell? :D

I have a PSP that I haven't used for a long time, how does one go about modifying it?  Its an original model and it got lots of use back in the day.  I also have a Vita which I purchased from blockbuster in Jersey, a great capable machine but dead and again spends most of the time in the draw.

I mostly use my PSP Slim for emulation and my Vita for PSP/Vita/PS1/PS4-RemotePlay but I also have the PSP's various system emulators also on the Vita too.  I hacked the PSP about 10 years ago so can't recall too much about the technique used at the time (which is probably outdated anyways) but the Vita required no hacking of the firmware and still runs the latest official Sony version.

CPC game Magica running on my Vita. Display looks great in person, just bad in this photo cos camera is too far from the Vita

recent Spectrum game Sword of Ianna

Couple of Super NES games running on Vita.  These are closer shots so the lovely colours show better. :)

I literally was editing to put resized ones while you typed that. :P   I didn't realise they were so big til I had posted.  Usually I upload to Twitter or instagram which resizes automatically so forgot they are huge. :P

Yeah, I think they can be automatically resized but since there are legitimate uses for huge photos here, I never used Imagemagick...

Thanks for the lovely pics btw :)

Is ok. I always like showing how lovely the Vita screen is.  Especially this week after having found another Nintendo 3DS for £5 (with four notable games) in local charity shop and remembering why I sold the last 3DS I had too.  Lousy screens compared to PSP/Vita and most mobile phones.

The screen on the original PSP had made me go wow like the first time I had seen the Atari Lynx... Just fantastic.

The screen on the original PSP is what sold it for me too. Other versions just never did it for me after that.

It's done by not hacking the Vita firmware but by using the PSP emulator on the Vita to run the retro emulators that were designed to run on PSP by hacking a PSP demo downloaded from PSN (in my case it was Ape Quest demo).   It was a lil tricky to get my head around the installing thing but yeah search for VHBL (Vita Half-Byte Loader)

PSP Go, anyone? ;)

Should be fine.  Also both the Slim and the Go have 64MB RAM as opposed to the original PSP's 32MB so have that advantage.   Get one, put emulators on it.  If you don't like it, sell it to someone else.  :)
