Still have the notes with the answers to the questions you were asked to prove you're 18... Ahhh good times!

TFM

Time for a game that asks you questions to prove you're under 21 (else no go). Call it parents protection ;-)

Leisure Suit Larry is a DEEP pickup strategy game.

Was it CTRL+ALT+X the key combination to skip the test on Leisure Suit Larry?...  ;D

REALLY? There was a F*CKING SKIP SHORTCUT?

Aw crap. I guess the crack menu I had it on on my ST didn't mention it... :(

Often wandered if a civilisation style game would be possible on a CPC

MacDeath

sure game wouldn't include all features, and wouldn't include world as big as Civilisation.

Z80 and 8bit can really be quite a limitation.
There is a reason why such games had to wait for 16/32 bit era...

512K and 8 mhz is a good starting base.

I always though some network games with the CPC being a "dumb terminal" could actually work pretty well.

A decent internet solution and a specific server (just a modern PC connected to internet) would help for all the meta management.

Yes absolutely, with corresponding GFX of course. But this must not be an disadvantage.

I think CIV is not that easy to do on a 4MHz Z80. Seems simple, but as the game progresses it's got to calculate lots of stuff - and keep lots of details in memory.

Harvey Headbanger was quite a strategic game in its own way

Calculations are not a problem on the CPC, drawing a whole screen every frame is.

How about a game like "The Settlers" on CPC?

Would something like this be possible?

(We remember: Lemmings also had many animated sprites on screen)

CIV shouldn't also be a problem. The Z80 loves calculations. And, yes a couple small sprite which don't move at 50 fps are no prob too.

Civilization is not heavily animated, but a lot of Database so a lot of disk accesses with "stock" CPCs, even 6128...

Would need to separate a bit more the technological eras or reduce the aeras into limited "worlds" and civilisations.

Also it would be easier to have a Plus because of those mouse pointers in hardsprite can really save a lot of pain..

Mode0 may not be so good for small stuffs and lots of informations but why not. again PLUS could help with some multimode screens.

With an heavy "RAMdisk" (or just 512K RAM...) or course it would be another matter...
Or a cool 512k ROM + 128k RAM + many disk accesses/extra RAM.

TFM

Or TotO's new 512 KB expansion module for games. That would be just right.  :)

I'll make sure I order the version that TotO will offer that comes with the Mega-Lo-Mania as a pack-in :D
