Don't know if a thread like this has been posted before?

In your opinion, which racing game on the CPC is the best one? Specifically thinking about fast framerate, rather than stunning graphics.
I haven't played a lot of racing games myself, but I remember playing Wec le Mans quite a lot.
Outrun was rather disappointing because of the way too low framerate.

What's your favorite CPC racing game?
Do you need music for your Amstrad CPC game project?
Take a look at IndieGameMusic.com - that's where I put my tracks.

Hi !
:)

Burning rubber, wec le mans, continental circus.

Chase HQ.

i would like to see a vroom adapted on cpc !
(of course not hoping to see same framerate as atari st)

trocoloco

3d grand prix its fast paced tho and with big sprites

Axelay

Wec le mans was one I played a fair bit too.  Always *wanted* to prefer chase hq because of the graphics, but it felt a bit sluggish to me by comparison.

I thought Powerdrift was good, along with Nigel Mansell's Grand Prix (the Martech/DJL Software one, not the Gremlin game).  Though that was a bit simulation heavy for my liking.  Also, I havent played it much because I didnt encounter it until recently, but Super Cycle seems to have a good sense of control and speed, though the lowest difficulty level is absurdly "finish-on-your-first-go" easy.

Puresox

Super cycle and WEC le mans were fast and sharp and enjoyable.

with focus on the framerate? just play the arcade game in orion prime :)

Gryzor

Wec, Chase and, indeed, Powerdrift.

Btw, Xifos, Vroom was just fantastic - it blew me away when I first saw it. It was just like Pole Position with bells and whistles... strange it didn't become a bigger success on the ST.

+1 for vroom.

I liked slicks on the c64.

Super monaco gp looks great but i don't know if it plays good...
I was disapointed by crazy cars 3.
(very good on 16 bits)

Do anyone have a screenshoot or video of it? Would be nice to see it

sigh

Supercycle and also the Nigel Mansell game (who I think where also involved with Supercycle?)

As much as I loved Chase HQ and Continental Circus - The Nigel Mansell game is much smoother. Supercycle also has identical smoothness, but the screen seems to go "backwards" when the cycle hits top speed. This little error doesn't exist in Mansell.

remax

I would go for Nigel Mansell one.

And Rally II has something addictive i can't define. But last time i tryed it again, i spend an hour playing it.

Beside the typical and during the emulators era, i discovered a pair of nice budget games: Twin Turbo V8 (fast, but a little insipid and monotone) and Miami Cobra GT (fast too, but very claustrophobic,  you will think that you are playing in a Game Gear :P ).

Well, there is another "racing" game, not in the classic "racing" theme, but goes to 50 Hz :P, i'm talking of Top Level ... although i'm not responsible of the stress and frustrations that this game can provoke  , i like it and i think is a perfect game for meetings (SM meetings, of course  or after a long session of coding self-modify routines  ;D )

Top Level: looks nice, but how on earth do you playit?

ukmarkh

I'd have to go with Wec-le-mans as the best racer, but Continental is the most rewarding if you can get to grips with it. PowerDrift and Super Cycle were fun though.

But if you focus on framerate, then Nigel Mansell and Supercycle are smoother in those regards.

Ahhh so you can move it before starting running... But, gosh, this must be the most impossible game ever!!!

sigh

Gryzor

Yes indeed, pretty smooth and interesting. I liked that game. There's also a very similar BASIC one (type-in?) which I had found very impressive (for a BASIC title, that is).
