Title: Blue Angel 69
Post by: arnoldemu on 08:52, 10 October 10
Blue Angel 69 is finished!

Programming: Kevin Thacker
Graphics: Markus Hohmann
Music: Roald Strauss
CAT art, inlay, disc label: Kukulcan
Blue Angel 69 website hosted by Markus, created by Kukulcan.

Thankyou to everyone who helped.

You can download the FULL game and source from my website:

http://cpcfreak.cpc-live.com/

In the sources you will find a library to use starkos from z88dk, and within morelib some extras for loading/saving files using amsdos, displaying double height chars and more. The code also includes a modified version of cpcrslib which I modified to try and make the code smaller. Enjoy! I hope others using z88dk to make games will find these sources useful!

Back in February, I asked Markus about a game that would be quick to write. Markus suggested Blue Angel 69. It took longer than I thought because of trying to fit it all into ram on the cassette version, but it's finally done.

All build files and tools (excluding z88dk) are in the download. I have provided all so that you can learn from it.

Soon you will also be able to download it from cpc-power, and here you will also find cassette inlay and a disc label, both created by Kukulcan.
Also, Kukulcan has created the Blue Angel 69 website, hosted also by Markus.

Blue Angel 69 @ CPC Power website:

Blue Angel 69 website:

At these time, neither have been updated, but I am sure they will later today

We are still working on the website.
But everybody can already play the game online here:
Tape version (http://cpc-live.com/emulator.php?disc=useruploads/944568bangel69_A.cdt&run=tape&system=CPC464T&crtc=1&monitor=colour&joystick=true&filter=false)

Disc version (http://cpc-live.com/emulator.php?disc=useruploads/469275bangel69_A.dsk&boot=true&system=CPC6128&crtc=1&monitor=colour&joystick=true&filter=false)

Btw.: It made much fun to co-operate with Kevin.  :)

Well done to all involved and is nice to see a collaborative effort.

Hello,

Well, I didn't expected too much from this game (played with a PC clone and found the "concept" boring).

But, finally, that's a good surprise ! I find it nice and more addictive than I have planned :-). Nice music, good graphics and wise coding ! So Blue Angel is a good CPC conversion, thanks for your hard work guys !

Kukulcan and me also finished the CPC-Power page:

For the website, we still need some time to setup it completely. So, stay tuned!

Nice work, guys. I don't particularly like this kind of game, but I'm sure a lot of people will :) . The gfx are good (on a real CPC), the gameplay all right, and the music enjoyable (already on the CPC Radio !). Just one remark : two DSKs just to change an image isn't handy for real CPC users with 3,5" drives. An option to switch from one image to the other (or randomly) would have been better. But it doesn't matter much :) .

Thanks for your reply.
The side B is a "surprise" we added in last minute.
So, really, the game was designed for one side.
But, as I already wrote, I decided to adapt also the screens for the game "Sexy Droids" - Which is the same game concept but different look.

Congratulations for the effort you put in this game. I actually quite enjoyed it, technically is quite good imo, nice and very well adapted graphics and music (the drums sounds great), and even with a tape version! .

You really have done a nice conversion of this game that I had never played before, glad I have now the chance to do it on the cpc thanks to y'all :)

Why are the last games on CPC so sexually oriented ?
Cheril searching cuncumbers and nuts, and this sexy Gynoïd... ::) :P

Well done, 2010 is being a good CPC year.

Thankyou to all. I am happy that you enjoyed this release.

The graphics of the cursor can flicker a bit, but I don't use a double buffer, not enough ram free.
But we all worked hard to bring you all a good conversion :)

Side B is an "extra" suggested by Markus. Both sides are the same game and you can load either side depending on which screens you want to play.

I will say that as well as the things you see, there is also 2 hidden things. I will not say more. One can be found easy by looking at the source. The other.. well... maybe one day somebody will work it out ;)

Nice game-concept, nice realization. I just think that the pictures of sexy droids could have been more touched up, the same for the digits. I admit there are a lot of pitcures. The other gfx are good IMO and musics are OK. A decent game to relax.

Thanks.

The pictures on side B were a late addition and to be a suprise to Kukuclan. So these were not touched up.
The pictures on side A had a lot more work done on them.

The digits were difficult to make them look like the digits on amiga without them looking too chunky.
So I think it was a good comprimise.

I already have another game in production.. due for release early in 2011. no more about that until it's done. ;)
But this time it's pure asm and for cpc and cpc+.

EXX is very interesting (and only 4ups).

Load your code from cart to RAM and it can self-modify.

EXX has 1 ys ;-)

With the free space in cartridge , you can do some amazing pre-compiled stuff :D (like sprites)

Think I understand how you do compiled soft sprites (i.e. a dedicated ultra fast routine to print one specific sprite) but can't see how you'd make compiled hardware sprites...?

I'm considering writing a utility that takes a normal sprite and compiles it in the way above, but am wondering if there's one already?

Wel I've made some code to generate compiled sprites, but not sure it is good for your needs.

For cpc+ hardware sprites, you need to poke the special ram to define the pixels.
So the compiled hardware sprites is the way you update this ram.

thanks.

Well the next game, has a different team. I am the coder, but others will do gfx, sound and music this time.
But, I hope to cooperate with the same team in future games :)
