Revisiting - and completing - Roland in Time

Hello Amstrad CPC geeks

Roland in Time was one of the very first games I was introduced to on the Amstrad CPC. It was my cousin who showed the game to me on his CPC6128, in the very beginning of our 5-year long Amstrad CPC adventure.

We both found the game so ridiculous difficult though, that we never played it much - and I never played it much since either.

But here in 2024 where basically all other games from back then has been played to such an extend that the nostalgia has completely faded away, and Roland in Time was one of the few games that still had some nostalgia attached to it - because I hadn't played it since then, (well not to any degree worth mentioning anyway), I sat down with it to see if I could dig up some Christmas vibes.

Still ridiculously difficult!  :laugh: This game is not for kids! It just looks like it is!

But I actually ended up completing the game, for the first time ever. And I gotta say, it really holds up.
I did not expect a CPC game from 1985 to have so many layers as Roland in Time does. You think it's a simple game with simple controls. And yes, to some degree it is. But it's also filled with hidden screens and other unexpected things. So the game did end up giving me that cosy Christmas/nostalgic vibe that I was hoping to find. Not sure what to do next year though...

If you remember Roland in Time from your childhood, but have avoided it since because you found it too difficult, I advice you to give it a go again today.
