But there is no way to guarantee that a person or team does not work on a project for only 6 months or less, if you allow them to enter the following year then they have 18 months to work on it whereas others will have only the prescribed "6 months or less".
And why not 10 years? :)

A 16K game can be done in 3 months w/o problem for everyone interested by a contest.
The goal is to reproduce that each year, so it's not possible to leave more time.
In 1 year, you can make a great 64K game. And in 2 years projects like Orion Prime, BB4CPC, R-Type, ...

6 months is not enough time as has been proven in this competition since 2 entrants failed to meet the deadline, how do you enforce the 6 months development time?, you've already said they can enter the following year.
And what's wrong with a ten year development time?

Please, be serious... A contest w/o rule is not a contest.
Contest are not for lazy guys, who have the life for doing nothing.

16K, 6 months is nice and the result show that: 4 greats games. :)

We have aded an extra month for peoples who wanted to finish projects.
For others, they can continue to work for the next contest. :)

I have no problem with the 6/7 month rule, but when you allow them to enter the following year you are saying they have 18 months to write the program.

No, they have 1 year if they start today... 6 months if they rest and wait January.

Indeed, if we're having a context next year then it's a full year :D

Apologies for the mistake in Overkoban's name in the last poll, I was knee-deep in open-source stuff when I did it and I guess my mind wondered a bit!

Less than 1 week left to vote for you favorite game!  8)

All are greats productions than may have been commercial HITS, 25 Years ago.
They really deserve more than 50 votes to be congratulated.

Here are the votes of my Girlfriend (she's not going to create an account here just for voting, but it's interesting in which way girls judge the games though...):

1. Cyber Huhn
2. Overkoban
3. Subtera Puzlo
4. Relentless

I thought I'd make a post for each of my girlfriends' votes, but I'd foul up the thread... :D

Is there enough space for that on the server?  ::)

Bryce.

rexbeng

Hah! I bet Cyber Huhn wouldn't even come close to Solitaire in a "best girlie game" compo :P

You can create a poll, and if we find more than 50 guys with a Girl-friend/Wife here, than you can start a new compo!

rexbeng

Well, judging by the fact that there's 46 votes for the curent compo, we maybe don't even have those 50 guys to begin with. ;D

Haha! Either the time is too short, or some just lack the guts for voting

Definitely too short  ??? Just come back off holiday and catching up. I've only just tried them very quickly on  winape (my actual machines are packed away as I am still setting up my Everdrives bought via Amibay and needed the space for those consoles) and they look amazing! I'll have to have more of a play tomorrow and get my votes in. My first impression is I am blown away by the quality of the entries... I didn't expect them to be THAT good if I was being honest so haven't really following the competition (big mistake on my part). Hope this becomes an annual thing.

Less of 24 hours to make your vote! Hurry up!!! ;)

beaker

Got mine in now  ;D
I voted Relentless in most categories as it looks pretty unique and sounds fantastic although my favourite overall game is Subtera Puzlo - I just keep going back to it in my tea break. All are worthy additions to the CPC library IMO.

The last poll (fuzzy feelings) has been closed an hour ago, and we have a clear winner in the first edition of Amstrad CPC 16KBs ROM Game Development Competition, the team responsible of:
RELENTLESS

Congratulations to Axelay, rexbeng and Tom & Jerry for so amazing game :)And congratulations to the other teams (TFM, Macdeath, Tom & Jerry -amazing work in all the entries he has taken part-,Supersly, Eldrik, EgoTrip and redbox), because all the entries are between the best CPC games ever :)

We will get in contact with the winner team about the donation prizes (Thanks to Gryzor for them)... and we'll see the next year in the second edition!!! :)

Gryzor

Thanks, guys... thanks for the excellent littles[nb]well, 'little' in size, but not in quality![/nb], and thanks for the organisation of the compo. Still playing them, still actually loading them just to listen to the tunes. Can't wait for next year!

TFM

Soooooo........ is there a compo for next year?????

While waiting, one can always beat these first.  :D  Been playing Relentless quite a while now... Beautiful effort with "less is more" approach. Nice use of palette/"bitplanes" to separate sprites/background. Diagonal level design, smooth. And horizontal SHMUP at full framerate - brilliant!  :P  Couldn't get it through without cheating though... Ending screen wasn't too exciting, but can't have everything in only 16KB.

rexbeng

Well, uh, I don't know what to say... I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the moms and dads of Axelay and Tom&Jerry. And ofcourse a big 'thank you' to all my fans here in the wiki for their love and support (tiny tear runs down cheek).

What can I say, you deserve me. 8)
