I think the message here is that some people don't give a shit about your copy rights and your legitimate wishes as an author.
And it underlines that even if you're not happy, you can't do shit about it. Basically, you're screwed.
Personally, my opinion is that this attitude is damageable to the CPC creators and ultimately weakens the community itself.

Have you sought permission and contacted all the authors/publishers/copyright owners of the games you've uploaded to your CPC Box website?  Or how about asking Amstrad or Locomotive software[nb]And a Usenet post from Clive Lawson 15 years ago doesn't really cut it[/nb]...?

And do I have to pay you a fee each time I use your emulator?  I ask because I couldn't find any terms and conditions or copyright information on your website, which is odd considering how keen you are to protect your intellectual property.

Doh. That was sarcasm from Gryzor!

I think we need a "Sarcasm" flag on the forum. :)

I agree...!

Also a "I've learnt to share" badge might be a good idea too  :)

Also, the software I put on the CPCBox website are 20 years old software, and the copyright holder doesn't sell them commercially anymore.
And the most important point, if the copyright holder ask me to remove their software from my website, I'll execute promptly.
Any CPC emulator I've encountered in the past 15 years has the same disclaimer based on this Cliff Lawson usenet post to justify including Amstrad Roms. It's about time you wake up.

Copyright lasts 50 years until after the death of the person / legal entity.  And "everyone else is doing it" and "I will remove if asked" are not valid arguments.

TBH, I don't really care - I am just making the point that you really should check your own stable before you get on your high horse.

Gryzor

@phi2x, man, from all the discussion this is what you got/kept? That I got a pirate copy?

As pointed out, you got some pirated titles on your site too. The fact that they're old, or that you'll remove them if asked is beyond even your own logic - isn't this against the authors' wishes, even if they're not for sale any more?

For me the ethics of piracy fall under one single criterion: if you don't hurt anyone, it doesn't hurt. Thus, if I pirate a €5000 program to toy with, I hurt no one. OTOH, ever since I started working and could afford it, I pay for the programs I like and use (my god, I even paid for Windows 8... now *that* was stupid, but I digress)

Oh, I see redbox already covered this. Anyway.

But Bryce really got it - it was sarcastic mate, not serious. I don't have a copy. Which is a shame for completion's sake, but oh well.

Now, this is an interesting discussion, but off-topic here. Feel free to open a new thread if you want :)

Wow, this kicked off.

I don't think it's right to abuse the wishes of current CPC devs who might want a tiny loss-making return on their time investment in writing a retro-game.

Yes, most retro-devs make their game available for free to download, or cheap on cassette.  That doesn't mean that everyone now has to do the same.

I also think there's a difference between a currently commercially available title, and a non-commercially available title being pirated. I know that in the eyes of the law it's the same - mainly because of ridiculous copyright laws - but in terms of harm done, copying Cybernoid or Times Of Lore is not generating any harm (and it is indeed keeping the software alive).

I would hope that TFM releases CC for all in due course, but that's a decision to be made by him.

And Duck Hunt on the NES is regarded as a classic, so simple target shooters should be able to be scored highly if they are smooth and controllable.

Gryzor

No, of course it's not right to abuse the wishes of CPC devs. Absolutely not. But it is right to criticise their work. There is a market out there, however small, and people judge with the market's standards in mind. When you can buy R-Type, Orion Prime or other fantastic titles at very low prices, it makes no sense adopting high price points -and then complain that people are not buying it.

MacDeath

I like ther way I feel like in a French forum now...

Seems the whole scene has become like the french scene.

This reminds me of the stories back in the day (and it probably still happens) where a game got a justifiably bad review, and the software houses fell out with the magazines because of it. Human nature never changes.

Well, sorry to disappoint you, but I didn't make a single cent with it. I didn't take any money to minimize production costs.

TFM's last post was deleted because it was just abusive.

Last post? That happens to most of my posts - usually without a reason. And if I complain I get a Watched or Banned. Thanks for the kind ways of solving misunderstandings.  >:(

Yeah, admittedly, calling people "third world chicken shit" or "douches" will get you that, one would think this would be understood by now :D

TFM

i will boycott this forum now for bad moderation and repeated insults of my person and my products.

Did anyone call you chicken shit? Douche? Common mortal who must bow to some other god? Something else?

Be a man and take criticism like one.

The only insults I saw is from TFM, you simply don't boycott anything. It's just lame as fuck to use your avatar this way... You know it's the place to be normally. Normally...

Gryzor

Thanks for mentioning it, I hadn't noticed, though I should have expected it. Time and again TFM has provoked others, though he knows I won't stand it.

So I deleted his tag line... (for history, it said "I boycott this forum because of bad moderation")

Hey Gryzor?
What do you think about a neutral "fighting place"? Where users here can fight their "personal", "offended", whatever wars? ;)

A unmoderated, for members only forum section, where we allow that?

Yeah, that would be like watching a train wreck in slow-motion. Sounds fun, but would cause too much trouble in the long run. People can always fight it out via email!
