Flyspy destination codes?

We're having quite a lot of CPC / C64 days here, playing old games. Basically we search the net for old games to try out, and today I downloaded Flyspy for the CPC, which looks interesting. But quite early in the game, where I use a telekey in a teleporter, it asks for a destination code. I can't figure out what this destination code is, so I figure that it might be some kind of copy protection.

I don't suppose anyone can help out here?

Take a look at IndieGameMusic.com - that's where I put my tracks.

There are lots of messages and things written in the map (on-screen).
So I think so are the destination codes?
I could be wrong.
Maybe somebody could map this game and hack it to find the codes.
The codes are not listed in the instructions for the tape!

Yes, destination codes are displayed on various parts of the game scenery.  The text says something to the effect of "The code for station X is: ? ? ? ? ? ?" where X is the station the code is for.  The ? ? ? ? ? ? will change to a destination code when you activate the relevant lever for it (not necessarily anywhere near where the code is displayed).  To complete the teleportation, you have to complete a Centipede mini-game (just 2 stages worth).  Don't teleport to station A from station A, that just wastes a telekey. :)  Destination codes are generated randomly, and will be differ from game to game.

You can find some tips on :

- Amstrad Action 26 (Nov 87) - pag 66 (On the Cheat Mode section).

And the own coder of the game, Richard Aplin send the internal Cheat Mode to the Amstrad Action Magazine.

You can find on :

- Amstrad Action 23 (Aug 87) - pag 55 (On the Cheat Mode section).

But the magical words are in the next issue :

- Amstrad Action 24 (Sep 87) - pag 38 (On the Cheat Mode section).

I think you can find these pages here on the wiki.

Thanks for your help. Indeed, the destination codes are written on the map along with a lot of other stuff.  :)  I missed that.

This game really seems interesting, well done and quite big. Looking forward to dig into it. First I have to learn how to control that chopper...hehe.

Good to know about the Amstrad Action pages. I couldn't find any scans of the pages, but I might find some later. Cheat will most likely be necessary, as with most retro-games. :->

Cheers!

Btw, it would be cool if you can add a new CPC Wiki article which includes your experiences with the game and maybe a small description for it :D.

I'll think about that, and try to keep it in mind while playing. Do you have any example of another similar article?

I made a replay some time ago for HARP.  While it doesn't finish the game, maybe it'll help you get started.  Maybe I ought to get back to this at some point, I used to be able to finish it, way back in the mists of time...

You'll need WolfMESS 0.116 to play it back - available at http://wolfmess.homeactionreplay.org/

Well, I guess two good articles are Super Cauldron and Rick Dangerous 2 and you can also have a look at the games category.

A good original CPC game coded by a 14 year old. We should have had more kids like him. An interview with him over at tacgr

Are you running it in plus mode with plus ppi enabled?
Perhaps the keyboard reading routines do not work with plus?

14yo? Seriously? Wow...

ivarf

yes, here is from the interview I quoted earlier
Quote
I was about 14 by then, and as I remember FlySpy took me just under a year (well, I was doing my O-levels and writing everything myself!) - I really don't remember where the game idea came from (I think it just evolved), and -thank god- about half way through I got a disk drive! (Anyone with an Amstrad at that time will remember the simple pleasures of listening to a disk loading on their first disk drive). Eventually I had to convince my parents to lend me the money to buy a second drive, as the source was too big to fit on one - I think the final version of FS took about 15 minutes to assemble.

I have a version which works fine from Drive B with ParaDOS. Send me a PM with your email address, and also send me the version which doesn't work so I can figure it out.

Puresox

Thanks for the offer Executioner, really appreciated! Fortunately I have managed to locate a working version via 'Cool Roms' or 'Romnation' one of those bunch. And have it up and running now. Great little game it is too.

The Flyspy destination codes were randomly generated each time you played.
Damn that was a long time ago :-)
